Red Sox 4, Tampa Bay 6:
A Very Good Start to the Season…

Posted by Christine E. at 6:39 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

So the Sox took 3 of 4 from a pretty awful Tampa Bay Team, which bring back fond memories of how awful they used to be–and how much fun it was to beat up on them. Whenever they would occasionally lose to them, it was always completely shocking… Good times!

But as wonderful as the starting pitching was (0.82 ERA in 4 games–yes, like 82 cents), and the hitting was timely enough to get the job done–and they won every game by one -run, which is refreshing, because 1-run games were a problem for this team last year…

On Opening Day, the bullpen imploded, leavig Joe Kelly with a 108.00 (!!!) and Carson Smith with a 27.00 ERA!!

THOSE two were responsible for blowing Chris Sale’s great start on Thursday, and the Sox’s only loss of the weekend. Holy Buckets, it’s far too early for the bullpen to be pulling this nonsense….UGH

Although, 2 days later, Joe Kelly gets his 1st career save, and drops his ERA to 27.00 (Smith’s is now 13.50, having redeemed himself in game 2…)

Baseball: what a fickle mistress you are…

But I watched a good portion (and the good portion) with my daughter, who kept asking me all weekend: “Can we watch the Red Sox play to see if they win?”, which warmed the cockles of my cold, dead, heart. She still gets a bit confused on scoring (she calls them “points”, instead of “runs”), but she knew who was winning, and was excited the Sox did well…

And yes, the Sox are 4 games into it, and are #1 in the AL East…But any day they are besting the Skanks, I’m all good with that…

And yes, (again) David Price pitched a gem on Friday, but making the pronouncement that he has overcome 2017 and has righted the ship (I’m looking at you, CHB), it just a teeny tiny bit premature….Cause anyone can win 1 game….

Finally, I guess we should be glad the Sox are playing in Florida until Thursday–The East Coast got some snow (!!) today, and the Skanks had to postpone their season opener in NYC due to snow…WTH??

Coming up: A mini-series of 2 in Miami against the Fish, and then it’s an off-day before the Sox head home. It always cracks me up that the Marlins 3-letter abbreviation is “MIA”, although it’s not completely inaccurate. Brian Johnson makes his 1st start of the season, opposed by Trevor Richards. 1st pitch: 7:10pm….
