Red Sox 6, Blue Jays 8: And Now We Start “The-Games-in-the-Middle-of-the-Night” Portion of our Program.

I have always been sort of conflicted about Left Coast games. On one hand, starting a contest at 10:00pm, after all the crazy running around that is my life has subsided, is massively appealing, I would rarely make it to the end, because the end would be, like 1:00am-ish. And that does not bode well for a school night.

On the weekends, I am usually up anyway, so the late night thing works–But holy buckets, starting a game at 10, just seems so LATE (Yes, this is coming from the person who used to go OUT at 11:00pm–ok, that was college and in my 20’s, but STILL…)

So now we have the Left Coast swing of 6 games, with 3 having a 10:07 start, 1 with a 9:07 start, and 2 late afternoon games…Not too terrible, as two of the 4 late nights are on weekends…

So maybe I will actually get to watch one or three…UGH…

Again, life gets in the way of baseball and I blink and another month has passed. The smaller Red Sox fan starts kindergarten in a month, so it’s the whirlwind of vacation and pencils and backpacks and glue sticks, and all the stuff most important to a 5-Year old. So the Sox rate much further down the list…

Anyway, Panda was DFA’ed–Holy Buckets! And then went back from whence he came, signing a minor league contract with the Giants….I know he seemed like a good idea at the time, but the weight and injury issues were just not managed properly…

Thankfully, Brock Holt is FINALLY back, after spending most of the season on the DL for vertigo, which is just one of those things that has to right itself, you cannot speed the brain healing along–no matter how much you want to…

So here we are, 3 games shy of the 100 game mark, the Sox are 2.5 games ahead in the AL East, 11 games over .500, and are 4-6 in their last 10, including taking a split against Toronto, whom they should have beat the snot out of, as the Blue Jays are at the bottom of the division….

But we all know how that goes…

So there is 10 days until the July 31st mid-season trade deadline, and it obviously, a third base option is a priority…Even with BrockStar back, and his exceptional flexibility, they need at someone who can play the hot corner consistently..the kid has been back, what 6 days? And n that span, he has played in 5 games, 4 of them at 3rd…way to ease the kid back in….

The Sox may also look at upgrading at first base, and in the bullpen, depending on how recoveries from injuries go…I always like this time of year, in some ways it the most exciting non-playoff part of the season, sort of like an off-season crammed into about 10-15 days…

Finally, Pedro is pitching in an old-timers game for charity on August 17th. He hasn’t pitched in the bigs since 2009. And he is now 45 years old. This should be interesting…

Coming up: Chris Sales goes for his 12th win as he takes the bump against the Angels. He is opposed by Ricky Nolasco, who has been pretty sucky for Anaheim this year, with a 4-10 record–and a number of Red Sox hitter have put up some good numbers against him.

Let’s hope we do not have a reverse lock. 1st pitch: The middle of the night (10:07pm).

Now I just need to stay awake for it.
