    Red Sox 4, KC 6:
Where the hell did the last 2 months go???

Posted by Christine E. at 8:17 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

Holy Buckets! Between work and vacation and summer and Pre-K Graduation (yes, that is a thing), I blinked and it’s been two months since I have put thoughts to paper on the Red Sox…

But then again, I swear my daughter was a baby like 20 minutes ago, and somehow, all of a sudden, she will be going to kindergarten in like two months…

    Sigh…

So, anyway, we are 2.5 months–ish into the 2017 campaign, are currently in 1st place, a 1/2 game ahead of the Skanks (although it took a 7-game losing streak by them to get us there–and it may be gone if the Skanks win tonight), and I STILL have no clue what to make of this team. Chris Sale is brilliant (and currently very well behaved), Rick Porcello is having flashbacks to 2015 with a record of 3-9 with an ERA of 5.05, and Steve Wright is out for the season, AGAIN, and David Price….Heh, well, David Price is the freaking Carl Crawford of pitching…and that is pretty much all I need to say on that…

But Craig Kimbrel seems to have his mojo back, with a 2-0 record, and ERA of 85 cents and 59(!) strikeouts in 30 games so far this season….

Of course the Killer B’s are spectacular, and always a joy to watch, but then there is Panda, on the DL, again, this time with, of all things, a freaking EAR INFECTION. Holy Crap, get the Z Pack and some salt water gargle and let’s get on with it…

But, to be fair, I think this is a way to get him the hell off the roster for a while (He can be on the DL for 20 days) and then maybe get him some more rehab on his knee, cause I think that is the issue–at least for the moment…I suspect it will always be something with him–Sort of like it is with David Price…

But Panda’s inability to be effective just contributes to the whole “3rd base has been a gaping pile of SUCK this year”, and what makes it pretty much unbearable is the loss of Brock Holt, who has not played since April 20th…and has been told his rehab cannot start until he no longer has the vertigo which sidelined him. And, with those type of issue, there is really nothing to be done but wait and hope….

Although they are hoping to get back Dustin Pedroia for Friday’s contest, which will give him the full 5 days to rest after being hit in the ribs by a pitch on Sunday. Of course, Pedey wanted to play today….But even when he does come back, rib injuries are PAINFUL, so its going to be a while before he going to be significantly better…

Speaking of significant, Andrew Benintendi (LOVE him!) hit his 100th career hit today–and towering solo shot that went 454 feet. non only is that the furthest he has ever hit a ball, it comes in 2nd for the longest shot for a Red Sox player so far this year (Hanley had one in April that went 469 feet).

And just in case you forgot: He’s 22..Yes, TWENTY TWO…

Coming up: After the loss of the series against KC today, despite a good outing by Pomeranz (and no homers this time!) the Sox have a day off as they head home for a weekend series against the Angels. Rick Porcello really hoping to break out of this..I don’t know WHAT this is, and right the ship as he takes the bump on Friday. 1st pitch: 7:15pm

    1st pitch: 2:15pm.
