    The Offseason:
    Random Thoughts…

    Posted by Christine E. at 7:11 pm in Baseball,Old Friends,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

Some thoughts while I try to juggle dance, swim class, Thanksgiving in 2 weeks, Christmas in 6 (The hell???) and 42 million other things…

Well, THAT certainly would never qualify as the World Series of Boring. Despite the fact Cleveland did not win (despite being up 3-1 at one point–Tito should have KNOWN what was going to happen), The Chicago Cubs did, which means that hell has officially frozen over..and now they are being all nice to Steve Bartman, who should tell them all to kiss his ass for the humiliation and torture they have put him through for the last 13 years…

So now, ironically, Cleveland holds the dubious honor of being the team with the longest World Series Win drought in baseball at 68 years. Can Tito get them to the promised land again next year? Well, the Indians’ front office HAS extended his contract to 2020, so anything is possible. Wow, imagine that….job security for a manager….for like more than a year…

It was a GREAT series, and I was screaming and cheering for the Indians as if they were my own team–and I really had hoped they would finally win…But holy hell, were we as obnoxious when the Sox won the World Series in 2004. Ya know what? Don’t answer that. The Sox did..”Queer Eye for the Straight Guy”-and Doug Mirabelli in a while robe and a facial mask (shudder) Let’s not speak of this again MKay?dougles-2002.jpg

But the Sox are already starting to rack up the hardware from this year: How bout Mookie Betts and his first Gold Glove! He saved 32 defensive runs in right field–that is not only more than anyone–its TEN MORE than anyone. He also had 14 outfield assists, 2nd amongst right fielders. The Sox havent had a RF like that since the 60’s–1960 to be exact. And you may have heard of him: Dewey Evans…

Now let’s just hope Mike Trout doesn’t get the MVP again–‘casue Mookie is totally deserving…But I am more concerned about the Astro’s Jose Altuve, who beat Mookie in the Players Choice Awards for Outstanding Player, and both Mookie AND Big Papi for Player of the Year.

And Rick Porcello, who is the poster child for total rebound, is one of hte 3 finalists for the CY Young–along with Corey Kluber and Justin Verlander. While he DID have more wins than anyone is in the Bigs (22), Kluber and Verlander are perennially CY Young guys..The results will be announced next Wednesday the 16th…

But, he did win the player’s choice award for Outstanding Pitcher in the AL, beating out Kluber and Baltimore’s Zac Britton, so there is that…

So the Sox, as a formality, exercised their 2017 campaign option on David Ortiz. While its nice to think about–he’s done. There was a REALLY interesting article by Rob Bradford that talked about how his last 3 years or so were pretty much a testament to sheer will–and an amazing trainer who went with him everywhere he went…

Finally, you have until tomorrow at 2pm EST to vote for Esurances’s 12016 Awards. Go to it. Mookie, Big Papi and Hanley need your votes. You can go here…Coming up: The Hot Stove right now is pretty much of simmer–I see a lot of “X is interested in Y” and “So and So didn’t get a qualified offer from Team A”, the Winter Meetings are coming up, so let’s see what going on there…
