    Red Sox 5, Oreos 3:
    Again with the 5!

And with that the sweep is complete, and the Sox’s magic number in the division goes to 5 and the magic number to get to the postseason is 4. Holy Buckets, this is really gonna happen this year…

The Cubs have clinched and have been awarded home-field advantage for the NLDS. I knew they did well this year, but WOW, they annihilated the rest of their division. St Louis was 17 games behind and Cincinnati was 34(!!!) games behind. With their 97-55 record, they are the best in all of baseball by a margin of SEVEN games (Texas is 2nd with 90-63).

And while it is likely the Sox will clinch the AL East title by the end of this weekend, it is widely expected they will have clinched a postseason berth by that time…Yay!

Can you imagine the possibilities of (Finally!) a Red Sox/Cubs World Series? I think that might be one of the signs of the apocalypse…But it’s mighty fun to think about…

It’s also SO nice to see that David Price has gotten himself right, and put in another quality start (his 22nd of the 2016 campaign) for his 17th win in a Red Sox uniform. Going 7 innings, he threw 99 pitches, 72 for strikes, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits (including a 3-run shot to Trey Mancini in the 3rd–who also hit a double off him in the 6th) while walking 2 and striking out 5.

The bullpen also chipped in for 2 scoreless/hitless innings, with Craig Kimbrel and Koji each pitching one, and striking out 2 a piece…Koji has really been a stabilizing influence since his return from the DL on September 5, where he has been with a right pectoral strain since July 20th.

We all know that The Large Father has been getting going away presents from teams as he embarks on his World Retirement Tour. So for his gift from the Oreos, they presented him with a copy of the dugout phone he bashed the crap out of 3 years ago. They also made a $10,000 donation to the World Pediatric Project, a charity helping children worldwide with life-threatening illnesses. If you look at his face when they gave him the phone, he looked none too pleased, but was gracious in his thanks for the recognition…I can see why they would think it would be funny, but it was certainly not David Ortiz’s proudest moment. He was not only ejected from that game in 2013, I believe he was fined for his behavior. So, no, not my idea of a gift, although the donation was nice…

I am VERY curious to see what, if anything the Skanks give him next week at the Stadium. The Sox gave nothing to A-Fraud when he retired earlier in the season, not even a ceremony or video montage. But then again, he decision to “retire” was a quick, last minute things. And I know that during that series in August, the YES commentators were saying the Skanks should reciprocate and not acknowledge Big Papi in anyway. So we’ll see…

Speaking of Big Papi, he and Mookie Betts are up for some postseason hardware, looking at Best Hitter, and Best Major Leaguer, respectively, in the 2016 MLB Awards. Old Friend Jon Lester is up for Best Pitcher as well. You can vote here, as often as you like, until November 11th…

Finally, postseason tickets went on sale at Fenway at noon today–and guess what? They are no tickets available anymore for any of the 3 ALDS games–There are tickest available for the Wild Card Game, but the chances of them losing the division and needing to play that are slim and none… Guess it doesn’t matter as my entire vacationing/traveling budget is used up for this year, so there was to be no postseason jaunts for me!

Coming up: The last 3 against the cell-dwellers, Tampa Bay. Ha Ha Ha Ha ha…ahem. Sorry. Drew Pomeranz going for this 11th win of the season, and is tasked with keeping the winning streak alive. Which may not be easy, because he has been kinda sucking lately… He is opposed by Chris Archer, who the Sox beat the snot out of the last time they played them. Let’s hope that trend continues. First pitch: 7:10pm.
