    August 9, 2016:
Playing the Skanks in the Middle of the Week…

Posted by Christine E. at 5:54 pm in Baseball,Red Sox No Comments

It is always weird to me when the Sox play the Skanks in the middle of the week, and this year, they are doing it twice. The 3 games now and the last 3 contests between the two at the Stadium during the last week of September.

Seems like baseball is taking the loss there, not shoving Red Sox/Skankee baseball down the world’s throat as the Fox game on Saturday, and the ubiquitous 8:00pm ESPN Game on Sunday. Personally I think it’s a bit much anyway, as there are 28 other teams in MLB baseball, and they too should get a turn…

Besides, the Sox and Skanks series are not as compelling as they once were…and this year, they are even less so. At this point, I just want to see them win the season series–because if the Sox do not have what it takes to get to the postseason (not that I am ready to concede that yet), it will be content if the Skanks don’t either. So with that…

    To the Blackboard!

To sum up, the Sox are in 3rd place. 2.5 games behind Baltimore and Toronto, who are currently tied for first place in the AL East. The Skanks are in fourth place, 7.0 games behind…

    Ha Ha Ha Ha… ahem…Sorry.

Same as last time, I am only going to focus on the Sox and the Skanks, because trying to figure out what would happen if the Oreos and the Blue Jays win or lose is just too much maths for me. As a result, we will focus on the 4.5 games that separate them…Ha Ha Ha…ahem…

    So.

If the Sox Sweep: The Skanks will be 7.5 games behind the Sox, which means they would likely be even further behind one of the first place teams..

If the Sox Win 2: There would be 5.5 games between the teams, still fun, and the Sox stil win more than they lose…

If the Sox Win 1: There would be 3.5 games between the two, which means it is likely Skanks pick up a 1/2 game in the standings, which, in the grand scheme of things, probably doesn’t mean that much. While anything can happen in baseball (and usually does), I think there are far too many better teams this year for the Skanks to make a miraculous surge…

I just hope the Sox are one of those better teams…

If the Skanks Sweep: There would be 1.5 games between the teams, which would suck, and definitely mean the Skanks have advanced in the standings…

So as always, my prediction for the series, is the Sox will win 2 out of 3, for pretty much the same reason as always. The potential for either team to sweep is always there, but each seems to play with more intensity when they come together, so it is that much harder…

And the starters are Porcello, Pomeranz, and Wright, so there is that…

Coming up: The Sox kick off their 6-game homestead with 3 against the Skanks, whom they are currently leading 6-3 in 9 games thus far in 2016. Rick Porcello takes the bump looking for his 15th win, opposed by Luis Severino, who is pretty dreadful (1-6, with a 6.02 ERA).

Let’s hope a reverse lock does not come into play here… 1st pitch: 7:10pm.
