    July 8, 2016:
    Sox! Need! Pitching!

Posted by Christine E. at 7:57 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

So they go and trade for not one, but TWO infielders???

YEP-PER (as my daughter likes to say)

Yesterday, the Sox gave up two prospects (including a pitcher who didn’t suck) and cash to Milwaukee for Aaron Hill, who will likely spell Travis Shaw at 3rd base, especially when there is a lefty on the mound, cause Shaw fares better against righties (.294 vs .211).

And then today, they pick up Michael Martinez from Cleveland, who had been DFA’ed by them over the weekend. He’s like a BrockStar in the infield, and was hitting .283. This player only cost them cash, rather than any prospects, or current players–although I think I can speak for everyone who would have been completely OK with them sending That Clay Person along to Cleveland…

Hell, let’s just throw him into the mix, ’cause we’re just that kind of ballclub…

So yes, both are fulfilling a need, but unless the Sox get a pitcher who can go out there and win more games than they lose, this is really not going to move the needle.

When you see The Doug Mirabelli Face–take heed!

Ya got 23 days, Dave Dombrowski, until the midseason trading deadline. Really need to get something done–See? ¬†Even Doug Mirabelli thinks so….

But some good news: SIX RED Sox Players are going to the All-Star Game! The 3 B’s (Bradley, Betts, and Bogaerts), knuckleballer Stephen Wright (who should freaking START if you ask me), Big Papi, and Craig Kimbrel will all head to San Diego for next week’s contest. Because you know…this time it counts!

I agree with all of the choices, except Kimbrel, although I think the selection was based more on his past performance, cause this years has been dicey, to say the least…

BUT, before that happens, folks need to buckle down and text, tweet and vote for Dustin Pedroia to be the final man on the ballot. As of yesterday, he was 3rd, so let’s get on this…Today is the last day!!!

While it is pretty sucky the Sox are currently THIRD in the AL East, 3 games behind the fracking Cookies, and 5-5 in their last 10 games (although they DID win two against the Rangers, one of the next teams in baseball right now), The Skanks who are fourth in the division, are 7.5 games behind. And there is poor, poor, Tampa Bay who is 15.5 (yes, FIFTEEN and a half) games behind. Although they still managed to take 2 out of 3 from the Sox in Florida when they faced then last month…

Coming up: The Sox finish up the first half of the 2016 campaign with 3 against the oh-so-sucky Tampa Bay. It would be SUPER if they could have some momentum going into the break, especially since they face the Skanks when they return from their 4-Day vaca. Tonight, Sean O’Sullivan takes the bump in the Fens, going for his third win. He is opposed by Chris Archer, who has a record like That Clay Person (4-11). Let’s hope they can get this done. 1st pitch: 7:10pm…
