    February 8, 2016: 10…More…Days…

Pitchers and Catchers report next Thursday the 18, with the first workout the next day. The reaming players need to be in camp the following Tuesday the 23th, with the first workout for everyone being the next day (the 24th) I wonder if anyone will be late this year, although that really hasn’t been too much of a thing since the Manny Ramirez days…

Other important dates include the doubleheader annual drubbing of Northeastern University and Boston College on leap year, and the first “real” baseball game against, you guess it, the Sox dreaded rival (ah huh) the Minnesota Twins, which is the afternoon of March 2nd…

As I mentioned before, this really hasn’t been that bad of a an off-season, likely due to the fact that the weather hasn’t been completely abysmal (although supposedly it’s going to get REALLY cold) this week, and stay that way for a while), and the fact that I didn’t watch a ton of baseball in 2015 (cause they SUCKED), so I was prepared for long stretches of no baseball…

A very good off-season, signing some desperately needed pitching certainly helped, although I would have liked to see a trade for That Clay Person AND Hanley, but they’ll get hurt soon and it’ll be like they are gone, although then we will have to hear about how they “really want to get back to help their teammates” and that “They are really feeling strong”, blah blah blah..

Speaking of injuries, I predict May 15th for Buchholz, and June 19th for Hanley, unless Dave Dombrowski does us a solid and gets rid of them before that…

But overall, I am excited for 2016. I want to see what all the young ‘uns do, as they remind me so much of the Skankee Core in the 90’s that helped them win so many World Series. It will also be interesting to see if David Ortiz has one last hurrah in him, and if he will get the World Victory Tour so many other players have in the last couple of years…I do hope he is recognized, but the excessiveness that was done for others hopefully will not be present.

And the Sox really need Dustin Pedroia being Dustin Pedroia again, because it really feels that how he goes, so goes the rest of the Sox…

Speaking of 2nd basemen, the best one in the prospect pipeline in all of MLB is Red Sox minor leaguer Yoan Moncada, which we heard about a couple weeks ago. He has also been ranked 7th overall in the Top 100 Prospects.

And with the Sox coming to terms with Robbie Ross for a 1 year/ $1.25 million contract, their non-arbitration hearing streak started in 15 years ago remains intact. The closest they have some since then was with Wily Mo Pena in 2007, with whom they struck a deal in the hallway outside the hearing…The last player to have a hearing in 2001? Rolando Arrojo.

Finally, Johnny Gomes is heading to Japan to play for the Rakuten Golden Eagles. Interesting. And his ego is still as strong as it ever was: “The last couple of years for me, it’s been World Series or bust. This is World Series or bust with a little twist. I’ll go win over there.” Yeah, OK Johnny…you’re the reason every team you play on wins–juuuuuust you…

Coming up: Two Days to Truck Day! Yep, this Wednesday the 10th the truck leaves the Fens with every manner of variety of items and heads to Florida, which takes like 4-5 days. Lets hope they miss the snow that is headed to the Boston area this week!
