    January 27, 2016: 22 Days…

Posted by Christine E. at 8:34 pm in Baseball,Old Friends,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

Some random thoughts as I take a break before my last class of graduate school, celebrate my daughter’s birthday, and wonder why NE Pennsylvania never seems to get those really big snowstorms we got when I was a kid…

And actually, this off-season really hasn’t been all that bad. Dave Dombrowski has picked up some good pitching (David Price and Craig Kimbrel), and the weather has been downright balmy until pretty much the beginning of 2016. So now we are getting the cold, and in a short time, the Sox will report to Fort Meyers and start getting ready…

Someone is already chomping at the bit to get started is Christian Vazquez, who says he will be 100% ready to go when Spring Training starts, despite the fact that he had Tommy John surgery and missed all of 2015. But he is working hard and will try to get his spot back after missing so much time: I’m working hard. My shoulder is more important now. My elbow is fixed. I’m working hard to get strong.”

So apparently MLB TV will be about $50 a year cheaper for me, as now there is an option to purchase access to one team, rather than have to get all 30. Because the last time I went and looked to watch a game of someone other than the Red Sox was NEVER. Apparently, they will also be doing less blacking out, which means I may get to watch them when they play Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh, and actually watch them play the Skanks and NOT have to listen to their horrible crappy announcers. Could it possibly be???

And then hopefully, they will be a good and fun team to watch again this year, so you know, I’ll actually watch them…

I saw pictures of Winter Weekend that happened over the weekend. Is it just me or is Pedroia looking kinda sickly? He just seemed so thin and scruffy. I mean I know he is a scruffy guy, but like REALLY scruffy. He says he is all healed and ready to go, which would be a great thing, as it seems that how Pedey goes, so goes the Red Sox…

So, Yoan Moncada has been listed as the #1 prospect at 2nd base by Major League Baseball. The Top 50/100 overall lists come out later this week. Well, I guess the 63 million we spent on the 20 year old Cuban Prospect may be worth it. I hope…

And how about this coolness? Mookie Betts is 2016’s cover player for R.B.I Baseball. Not too shabby for a 23 year old who just played his first full season in the bigs…

Then next year, the lone 2015 Red Sox All-Star Brock Holt will be wearing another number. That’s because the number he had has been retired, as it was also worn by Hall Of Famer and former Red Sox 3rd baseman, Wade Boggs. They had a little ceremony at Winter Weekend where Holt gave up his jersey to Boggs, which seems a bit contrived to me. But whatever. Brock will play super utility player under the number 12 for the 2016 campaign…Which, in a neat bit of trivia was also worn by Boggs when he played for Tampa Bay–and was retired there as well…

Coming up: The Big Day: As always, the last Saturday in January, starting at 10:00am, most single tickets go on sale. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like I will get to the Fens this year, as I need to go to Chicago for a bunch of days in June. Perhaps if they are playing the Pale Hose the weekend I am there…
