2015 was undoubtedly a difficult year for Boston Red Sox. The team faced many struggles and ended the season helpless at the bottom of the division despite the impressive efforts of Xander Bogaerts, Mookie Betts, and Jackie Bradley, Jr.

Xander Bogaerts and Dustin Pedroia on March 31, 2014Despite the relative disappointments of the season, baseball fans can still look ahead to a few off-season treats with the news that Major League Baseball’s charity, the Player’s Trust, will be hosting their annual golf and poker tournaments very soon.

The Player’s Trust has been in operation for a number of years and is one of the first of its kind in offering players past and present the chance to put their fame to good use through a series of community-based initiatives. Through a series of organizations such as Buses for Baseball, Volunteers of America and Medicines for Humanity, the charity is able to bring about a great deal of exposure and money for the more needy elements of society.

Fundraising activities are key to the success of the Player’s Trust and by organizing poker tournaments and golf competitions, they have created a fun and interactive way for baseball fans to meet and compete against their favorite players.

This year the twelfth annual Charity Golf Tournament and second annual MGM Grand Poker Tournament will take place on January 13 and 14 in Las Vegas. The poker tournament in particular will hold something of interest for Red Sox fans as key amongst the participants will be Shane Victorino.

Much missed by fans since he helped the Red Sox in the famous 2013 season, Victorino has since found a new lease of life with the LA Angels and the popular star will be in attendance at the gaming tables as part of the Player’s Trust poker tournament. Red Sox fans keen to take on the star player might want to visit the Spin Palace online casino for a little poker practice, and if Victorino shows anything like the spirit he displayed in 2013, he will be a formidable card-player.Rickey Henderson and Eddie Murray, 1983

The golfing competition should also reveal a similar level of star power with many Hall of Famers such as San Diego Padres player Dave Winfield and Baltimore Orioles first baseman Eddie Murray keen to show their skills on the golf course.

And with many other major leaguers taking part on the poker tables and socializing in the club house, it could present baseball fans with their best chance yet to take on their sporting idols.

By way of example, the gamble may be half as much as the very first bet when the first guess was a success.
