    August 11, 2015: No More Koji…

    Posted by Christine E. at 6:51 pm in Baseball,Old Friends,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

As a result the line drive Ian Kinsler bounced off his writs on Friday night, Koji’s wrist is fractured, leaving him with 25 saves and a 2.23 ERA for the 2015 campaign, as he season is now over. Although based on the current state of affairs, it’s not really going to make a bit of difference. Some games here and there, but when you are on pace to only win 72 games. It really doesn’t matter.

And I was never one to say “but now they get to play spoiler!” Ugh, please. They sucked this year, they sucked last year, blah blah blah, playing “spoiler” is not going to offer any comfort. At. All.

At this point, all they can do is play the kids, and hope the hell Ben and Co. can fix what the hell is wrong with this team. And they can start by getting some real starters.

Speaking of, the brief Justin Masterson Era is over, with his DFA on Sunday–THANK GOD. While I like the guy, what the FRACK was Ben thinking signing a starter with a 5.88 ERA, and averaging LESS than FIVE innings per outing in 2014? WTF? After we lost Jon Lester (sob), and were planning on calling That Clay Person the Ace (which admittedly was working out OK, until he went on the DL–AGAIN!), there should have been less risks, and more signing an ace, or at least a couple decent 3-4 starters. Porcello, with his 5-11 record and his 5.81 ERA? That’s John Lackey, circa 2012 stats–My toddler pitches better than him.

And speaking of, “Big Game James” Shields has cleared waivers and can be signed by any team–DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT BEN…

But it makes me wonder. Did anyone else see this? Did people think the Sox were gonna suck (again) this year so bad? Did the pros at MLB Baseball Line see this coming? I knew they had some problems, but never in a million years did I think they had THIS many problems…

And I am so very sad that Mike Napoli was returned to the Rangers for cash and a player to be named later. He just GOT IT, playing here in Boston. I will have fond memories of him roaming the streets of Boston after the duck boar parade, topless. But his hitting was just not there anymore….

Looks like Mookie Betts, on the DL since July 29th with a concussion, will be back for tonight’s contest, which is certainly great news. But what the heck do the Sox do with Jackie Bradley, Jr., who has a MONSTER 5-RBI game, including one of his “he makes it look so freaking easy, but holy crap that’s a hard play to make) catches in center…

Today is Pablo Sandoval’s birthday, he’s 29. Maybe he could have a game like the one Nomar had for HIS 29th birthday on July 23rd in 2002, when he 3 hit homers (including a grand slam), racking up EIGHT RBI’s in a 22-4 win against Tampa Bay. Hell, I’d be happy with last year’s stats: 16 homers and a slash line of .279/.324/.415.

In case you were wondering: 9 homers and .257/.305/.383 for 2015. Ew.

Coming up: in between 2 off days this week, the Sox finish their 8 game road trip with 2 with the Fish in Miami. Stephen Wright, coming off a brilliant 8-inning, 1-run game against the Skanks (the only win in that series) takes the bump in game 1, opposed by Justin Nicolino. 1st pitch: 7:10pm.
