Red Sox 8, White Sox 10:
    13. Games. Behind.

    Posted by Christine E. at 9:14 pm in Baseball,Old Friends,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

Two weeks ago, the Sox were 5.5 games behind in the AL East. Still dead last, but 5.5 games heading into the All-Star break, while daunting, was possible. Today, after losing NINE OF THEIR LAST ELEVEN, including being swept by Anaheim AND the fracking Astros–who are, inexplicably in second place in the AL West–They are THIRTEEN games behind the Skanks, 7 behind Toronto and Baltimore, and 4.5 behind Tampa Bay with a .440 Winning Percentage.

And while we are piling it on, they are currently on pace to win 71 games this season–the exact same number of games they won in their horribly awful 2014 campaign.

And THIS is what they paid stupid money for Hanley Ramirez, Pablo Sandoval and Rick Porcello?

Speaking of Hanley and Panda. Honestly, those two are giving me MAJOR flashbacks to two other equally as useful players: Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez…

Outstanding. Even mind-numbing Neuropsych is more compelling that watching the Sox play this year. AGAIN.

And just for giggles: Joe Kelly’s line from last night: 3.1 IP, giving up 5 runs (4 earned) on 7 hits while walking none and striking out 2. He threw 73 pitches, 45 for strikes, and has a NIFTY 5.94 ERA for 2015. Can we officially announce he is out of the running for the Cy Young? Or should we wait?

So the Shane Victorino Era is over, as he was traded to Anaheim (with the Sox paying most of his remaining alary) for Josh Rutledge. A mediocre infielder/utility guy who spent most of his time in Colorado, and has never gotten out of the minors in Anaheim. I’m surprised they got that much for him, as he has out Drew’ed JD Drew for number of DL stints in the last two years. And we already have a utility guy far better: Lone Red Sox All-Star Brock Holt…

And the Flyin’ Hawaiian gets to go play/go on/stay on the DL for a first place team

Speaking of Outstanding, the best thing about this season HANDS DOWN (and, truth be told, would be even if the Sox were in first place) is Pedro being inducted into the Hall of Fame. I cannot think of anyone in recent (or no so recent) memory to be more deserving of the honor. And he was class act all the way, paying homage to his beloved homeland (he is only the 2nd player from the DR to reach the Hall of Fame), and new home, with patches on each shoulder of his bright blue suit: “I wanted to make sure that I recognized both sides, the Dominican Republic, because I was born there, a lot of the people, as you saw, showed up from all over the country and the Dominican Republic and different places to support one of its sons being inducted into the Hall of Fame. I’m a U.S. citizen, I respect America. I wanted to recognize America. I wanted to give America the same props I gave the Dominican Republic because without America, I wouldn’t be standing in Cooperstown, New York, being inducted into the Hall of Fame.” Class act, completely. If you haven’t seen the video, go watch it now. And then watch it again. It’s that good.

What is no good is That Clay Person was placed 60-day DL, meaning he cannot pitch for the Sox until at least September 9th. Not that I expected to see him the rest of this year anyway. And seriously, I’ll bet you a dollar he gets Tommy John within the next 6 months…

And the reason for the move? The Sox claimed a crappy reliever off of waivers from the Giants and they needed room on the 40-man. Who’s the pitcher? Righty Jean Machi, with a 5.14 ERA in 33 appearances for 2015. Holy Hell…

Finally, aspiring blogger Donny from The Unoriginal posted a column about the state of the Sox and their 2015 season. Check it out!

Coming up: Wade Miley takes the mound in game 2 of 4 against the White Sox. He is opposed by Jeff Samardzija . 1st pitch 7:10pm.
