Red Sox 13, Kansas City 2: Winning the Series….

Posted by Christine E. at 8:10 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

And how sad is it that this is such a unique thing that it is shocking when they manage to string together a couple of wins?

It’s equally as sad that there is little to no expectation of them winning, just that they will lose in some embarrassing and horrifying fashion.

And there is also the whole “chicken and beer” vibe happening again this year, who someone who is SUPPOSED to be a clubhouse leader, thought it would be a good idea to like stuff on Instagram in the middle of a game??? And how about the fact that it often feels Hanley Ramirez’s “immaturity issues” are back, and worse than ever?

To be honest, this season has held little interest for me. Too much other crap going on. But what also does not help is EVERY STINKIN TIME I turn on the TV, they are losing–and losing bad, and I’d rather work my mind-numbing neuropsych classwork than watch the Sox get gutted. Again.

But this weekend they actually won two of 3 against KC, Wade Miley didn’t suck, and Mookie Betts was being…Mookie Betts, hitting everything but a single on the road to the cycle. I liked they were 10-0 for most of the game, and admittedly, I had to look twice to make sure it wasn’t the Sox down by 10.

This is what happens when your team inexplicably crashes and burns for the second year in a row.

Miley’s line: 6IP, giving up zero runs on 5 hits while walking 3 and striking out 2. He threw 101 pitches, 60 for strikes. And this is his 7th win, bringing his record to 7-6 with a 4.50 ERA, which makes him the winningest pitcher on the Red Sox starting 5.

So the Sox are 4-6 in their last 10, are still DEAD LAST in the AL East, 9 games behind frontrunner Tampa Bay–and have a .437 winning %

So I am heading up to the Fens for Thursday’s afternoon contest, looking forward to seeing a game live, hopefully it will not be horribly awful. But they are playing the Oreos, and they cannot seem to do anything right when it comes to playing that ballclub this year. It’s still a TBA on the starter, but if there is no change in the order (or no rainouts), it should be Eduardo Rodriquez, and that would be REALLY cool, as his stuff is electric.

Speaking of electric, I LOVE that Brock Holt is still such a rock star in Boston, and that last year was not a one-time thing. Hell, his hitting for the cycle last week was the first time a Red Sox player did that since John Valentin 19 years ago.

Ryan Hanigan is eligible to come off the 60 day DL next week, where he has been recovering from the broken knuckle he got playing the Skanks on May 1st. He’ll start a rehab assignment probably Monday, and then it will only be a matter of time before he is back is the bigs. Maybe. The question is will he replace Swihart, who has been doing a great job as backstop, but is only hitting .226, and could use some more time in the minors? Personally, I think this is a super idea, as Swihart has limited experience, period, and should have the time to work his stuff out…

Finally, here’s a completely frigged up stat: How in the HELL did Koji get a 3.52 ERA for the 2015 campaign? The rest of his stats for the season: 2-3 with 14 saves and 26 strikeouts in 23 innings pitched. And his 1.17 WHIP is the highest he has had since 2009, his first year in the bigs…

Coming up: An off-day, then three at home against Baltimore, starting with tomorrow night’s contest, Joe Kelly taking the bump, trying for his 3rd win of the season (which still will not get him to a winning record–UGH) opposed by Ubaldo Jimenez. 1st pitch: 7:10pm
