Red Sox 3, Atlanta 11: Games! With Real Scores!

    I know, I know…

It’s been a long, hard, cold winter, too much on my plate, a challenging research class, and a 3-year old–but baseball will be here in less than 3 weeks, and I am hopeful all the snow will be cleared at Fenway before the first pitch is thrown there on April 13th…Hopefully…

But holy buckets, it’s so very nice to have actual scores, and a decent start (8-6, 10-6 if you count the college wins) to the 2015 campaign, and even if it is only Spring training, it is good that there is baseball being played–and they are not sucking right out of the gate…and we can all be excited about warmer days and real live meaningful baseball…

And I know its only Spring Training, and I know it’s only his 3rd start of the same, and I know his walk count is down (2) , and his strikeout are up (12, including 6 today) and that is great. But giving up 4 runs on 5 hits while throwing 62 pitches in 4 innings? Eh, not so much.

    But he felt good! Blech….

Sorry, not sold on the whole That Clay Person reclamation project. HE should be gone, and Jon Lester should be on the bump when the Sox face the Phillies at 3:05 on April 6th (and it had better NOT be blacked out)…But I’m not bitter.

    I know I know…

I need to get over the loss of Jon Lester, and face the fact the Sox are going to trot this headcase out every 5 days until he goes on the DL, probably as a result of stepping on his daughters Egos or something… And I’ve got May 15th in the DL pool…

    Ahem…OK…

I am however, a bit concerned about the injury count thus far. Koji pulled his hamstring, Jose Kelly’s bicep hurts, bad enough he has to leave the game on Monday, Rusney Castillo has yet to play at all because his side hurts, and Vasquez has soreness in his throwing elbow. So we’ll see if this becomes a thing or not…

Although…is Vasquez is down, we could see more of young phenom catcher Blake Swihart, who is hitting the not out of the ball this Spring training, hitting .538 with a homer in 13 at bats–and his is a switch-hitter, which gives the Sox more options… But the most compelling thing is his immediate comparison: My beloved, Carlton Fisk…

And is there anyone else who thinks the “lack of an ace” explanation–i.e.: That Nieves said how anyone can step up and be the ace at any given point, as it’s a long season, feels SO much like the horribly awful “closer by committee” concept in 2003? Only problem with that is this rotation as constructed isn’t as talented as that bullpen was…and then there is the whole “it failed–miserably” thing…

Coming up: Just so we have an accurate count: 18 Days until Opening Day….Whoo Hoo!
