    October 23, 2014:
    The World Series…ho hum…

Posted by Christine E. at 6:41 pm in Baseball,Old Friends,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

I know, I know, I should be more excited about this World Series. A team with a 29 years playoff drought who barreled through all of the teams that were supposed to beat the snot out of them is facing the team who, although they were at the dance in 2012, beat the perennial favorite, St. Louis to get there.

And if that isn’t enough of a compelling story, Jake Peavey, JAKE PEAVEY started Game 2 last night. Of course he lost, giving up 4 runs in what would be a 5-run 6th inning, bringing the series to 1-1…

So it’s still anyone’s ballgame (no pun intended), and I am still holding out that KC will do this in 6…But if you are doing any betting on the series, or anything else, you can check out some great tips here

But apparently, I am not the only one who feels a bit “eh” about this series, as the ratings for this series have been lower than previous years. Of course there are only about 19 Royals Fans in the world, and San Fran is the left coast, so while I wouldn’t really classify this as the World Series of Boring. (That would have been the Dodgers and the Tigers), but it’s certainly not a riveting battle to the finish…

So I guess there will not be a Bill Mueller/Red Sox reunion in our future, as the Sox have signed Oakland’s former hitting coach, Chili Davis to replace Greg Colbrunn who decided not to return to the Sox after the medical issues he suffered during the season. Reportedly signed to a multiyear contracts, Davis was the hitting coach in Pawtucket, prior to his tenure in Oakland…Hopefully he can help the Sox get back on track, specifically helping the young ‘uns get on track…

And now that we are in the postseason, are pretty much done reminiscing about the glory that was 10 years ago, our thoughts turn to the offseason, and “dear god, what the heck is Ben Cherington going to do to FIX the debacle that was 2014?” And the BIG rumination that is happening now is “Will Jon Lester re-sign with the Sox???” I know people are still holding out hope, and he would come back here in a heartbeat, and I for one would be THRILLED to have him on the bump on April 6th, 2015. But we have to be realistic here. If the Sox WANTED Jon Lester, they would have made him a legitimate deal when he was a member of the Red Sox, instead of trading him. His value is even higher now than what it was when he left. They didn’t want to pay it before, when he would have come a bit cheaper, I find it highly doubtful they would be willing to pay MORE now…

The oldest living member of the Red Sox, pitcher Lou Lucier, died this weekend at the age of 96. He pitched for the Sox during the 1943 and 1944 campaigns. Bobby Doerr, who is 2 weeks younger than Lucier, is now the oldest, and is the only living player who was alive when the Sox won the World Series in 1918…

Coming up: Tomorrow night, Game 3 of the World Series, as the teams take it to the Left Coast for 3. Jeremy Guthrie takes the bump for KC, opposed by Tim Hudson for San Fran. 1st pitch: 8:07 pm…

Neato info: For as many years as Tim Hudson has been around, (since 1999!) tomorrow night’s World Series start is his First. One. Ever.
