    September 30, 2014:
    And that, is that…

Posted by Christine E. at 6:01 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

Nine random thoughts as I continue to work on my final project/case study for Lifespan Development…

    1. So the Sox have finished packing up their lockers, and heading to the links while 10 other teams head to the dance. Hard to believe that this time last year, they were heading there themselves, and the hopes of a 3rd World Series were very, VERY possible…

    2. But then again, the year before that, they were 69-93, has Bobby Valentine as a manager, and very few members of the Boston Red Sox gave a crap about the team, the fans, or anything other than themselves…)

    3. And while most of us never expected the Sox to repeat this year, I KNOW we expected a damn sight better than 20 games UNDER .500 (71-91), and last place in the AL East, with the fracking OREOS winning the division, and ending up THIRTY games over .500

    4. And this is ALL I am going to say about Derek Jeter: I know I am in the complete minority when it comes to him. But here is something to think about: The Skanks missed the postseason by 4 games, ending their season at 84-78. Could they possibly have fared better WITHOUT THE CONSTANT DISTRACTION of the Retirement tour? Anyone? Bueller?

    5. And Note to Will Middlebrooks: When your employer STRONGLY suggests you play Winter Ball, you freaking PLAY Winter Ball, especially when you SUCKED this year, hitting .191 with 2 homers. Oh, and the fact that you only player 63 games in the bigs this season, cause you were either injured or BANISHED to the minors.. Ben says it won’t impact his standing for 2015 campaign. Maybe not, but the injury and the SUCKAGE sure as hell will… So Will, do not be super surprised to see Brock Holt or someone else at the hot corner next April 6th, K?

    6. Speaking of the 2015 Campaign, it will be interesting to see how the Hot Stove shakes out. Could it possibly happen that Jon Lester resigns with the Sox? I guess anything is possible, but REALLY?

    7. And speaking of REALLY? Couldn’t the Sox have had mercy on their fans and pitched ANYONE other than That Clay Person for the final game of this lost season? For his 11th loss of the season, this was his line: 6 IP, 4 runs on 5 hits while walking 1 and striking out 4. He threw 94 pitches, 62 for strikes. Typical. So he ends up with an 8-11 record, with a 5.34 ERA. Typical. Oh, and so much for being healthy. He is getting meniscus surgery done on his knee next week. So he WAS injured. Figures.

    8. In case you were wondering, there are 188 days until April 6th, 2015. Or, 6 months and 8 days. Outstanding. Better get to work, Ben, this crap is not acceptable…

    9. Coming up: The Battle for the AL Wildcard happens tonight, for all the marbles. Jon Lester (sob) gets the start for Oakland, opposed by James Shields, whose KC Royal are in the Postseason for the first time in 28 (!) years. My prediction is Oakland. 1st pitch, 8:07PM, Kaufman Field…

9a. I’ll do my predictions at some point as well…But holy hell, it’s not as much fun when the Sox aren’t in it…
