    Red Sox 4, Atlanta 0:
    3…is a Magic Number…

Posted by Christine E. at 6:10 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

Holy Buckets! Again with the happy happy joy joy for another Red Sox win. Their 3rd in a row. For the first time this year. Against Atlanta. Hopefully the mojo will transfer to other teams as they can’t play the Braves all stinkin’ year…

And John Lackey. Holy Buckets. I still cannot believe he is the same pitcher that not only was a ton of complete suckage 2 years ago, but a complete asshat. And he has done a 180 on both counts. As the ONLY winning pitcher in the Red Sox rotation, (Yeah, read that again, I’ll wait) he got his 6th win with a great outing last night. Throwing 105 pitches, 77 for strikes, he pitched 6.1 innings of shutout ball, giving up 8 hits while walking NONE and striking out 9. And again the bullpen did its job with 2.2 innings of 1 hit ball with a walk and 2 strikeouts…

And shockingly, That Clay Person was placed on the DL yesterday with a hyper extended left knee. Uh huh. I am SURE the injury that he supposedly got THIS WEEK is responsible for the complete and utter CRAP he has been dealing all season. Yeah. SURE it is… Alex Wilson was called up from Pawtucket to take his spot on the 25 man…it will be interesting to see who wil get the spot start in his stead (and Felix’s as well) this weekend against Tampa Bay.

So The Idiots were back in town last night to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the 2004 Team–not sure why they chose the end of May-seems kinda random, especially since the manager of the 2004 ballclub will be at Fenway in 2 weeks…But most of the boys were back, and it was great to see them all. Kevin Millar was in the booth with DP and Steve Lyons and he was fracking hysterical. And it’s in honor of that I give you one of the greatest quotes in Red Sox history, from none other than the man himself: Kevin Millar: “Let me tell ya. Don’t let us win today! Then we got Petey tomorrow. Then we got Schill Game 6. Game 7 anything can happen… Don’t let the Sox win this game!” And the rest, as they say, was the greatest sports comeback in history…

And speaking of a great comeback. Manny was in Boston last night, and he seems to be a different guy than the malcontent that quit on the Sox so many times through the years, and was traded in 2008. First, he apologized for getting physical with traveling Secretary Jack McCormick, and had this to say: “Yes, yes, yes, I went and spoke to Jack. I apologized to Jack. I told him, ‘Jack, I want you to forgive me, because it was my fault. I behaved bad here with everybody. I want you to forgive me.’ He said, ‘Manny, thank you, I was waiting for that.'” And he has THIS to say as well: “I behaved bad with the organization, with my teammates, but now I realize that. I have to move on. I can’t be looking in the past.” We’ll take that. Now let’s hope he walks his talk…

Finally, Steve Lyons will once again join DO in the booth tonight, replacing RemDawg who has been dealing with the issues with his son, who chose to plead guilty on Tuesday to the stabbing death of his girlfriend (and mother of his child) Jennifer Martel. Kind of surprised, as he seemed to not have any desire to take any responsibility for any of this, pretty much just as he has his whole life. But I am glad that he did, as this will spare a lot of people a lot more pain…

Coming up: Game 4 against Atlanta, which hopefully will be their first sweep of 2014 (How freaking SAD is that???) Jake Peavy, whom I love, but needs to STOP BEING SO FREAKING AWFUL takes the mound, opposed by Mike Minor. 1st pitch 7:10pm…
