    Red Sox 6, Atlanta 3:
    Win Streak!

Posted by Christine E. at 6:19 pm in Baseball,Old Friends,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

How sad is it that everyone (myself included) is so FREAKIN happy about 2 wins in a row? That’s what happens when you are living in an alternate universe.

And like I said on Facebook last night, the Sox may be OK if they play Atlanta for the rest of the year…

    Holy Hell…

So Jon Lester got his first win in what seems like a VERY long time, even if it WAS like 2.5 weeks ago, and again, he pitched competently enough, 6 innings, giving up 3 runs on 8 hits (including a homer) while walking 3 and striking out 7. He threw 111 pitches, 67 for strikes.

And again, the bullpen was nails, throwing 3 innings of 2-hit ball with a walk and 4 strikeouts…And Koji, with his 11th save of the season, now has a 0.87 ERA.

And how about this? Now, all of a sudden, That Clay Person has a possible knee issue! Shocking! So he goes from being all perfectly healthy, to all of a sudden having a knee issue bad enough to make him pitch worse than a 2012 John Lackey with an elbow in need of Tommy John. Uh huh…

Oh, and I liked the fact that he was blaming the HEAT for his woes in Atlanta: “I had a long inning and then I wasn’t ready for the heat. I think it got to me a little bit.” Uh Clay, you’re from TEXAS, not Pennsylvania. And you are a MAJOR LEAGUE PITCHER, not having long innings is uh, sort of YOUR JOB…Holy Hell…

So he’ll throw a bullpen today to “test his knee”, and I fully expect there will be a DL announcement later today…

And we are less than 2 months away from the All-Star game, and there are no surprises here. Mike Trout is kicking ass. Jeter will make the squad again, and David Ortiz is leading as DL. But a new wrinkle this year! If you have a MLB account (or sign up for one) you can get 10 BONUS votes, for a total of 35 per e-mail. Great. People can skew the numbers ever further…The rest is the same: you can vote until July 3rd, 11:59 pm EST online, blah blah blah. All Star Game Selection show that weekend, blah blah blah.

The All-Star game is in Minnesota on Tuesday, July 15th, starting at 8:00pm (although the game won’t start until 9…) And the Home Run Derby will be the day before. Can’t WAIT to hear the infernal Chris Berman and his “Back Back Back”. Fresh hell every year…

Coming up: The Sox play Atlanta. Again–But this time in the Fens for 2. John Lackey gets the start, opposed by Gavin Floyd. Tonight is also the 10 year reunion of 2004 World Series Champion Red Sox. Slated to be there are: Manny, Pedro, Trot, Gabe Kapler, Pokey (!!), Wake, Kevin Millar, Keith Foulke, Jason Varitek, Derek Lowe, Johnny Damon, and Orlando Cabrera–should be fun times. 1st pitch 7:10pm
