    Red Sox 4, Reds 3:
    ‘Bout freaking time…

Posted by Christine E. at 6:14 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

So the Sox are at .500, and you would think they won the World Series for how happy we are all about…and it only took them NINE TIMES…Yes, kids, they have been under .500 since April 5th..Out-freaking-standing…

Funny how things change in a year…

So now they are 17-17 and tied for 2nd place in the AL East (The Skanks and the Cookies are tied for first. Tampa Bay is inexplicably dead last 3.5 games behind. But if you look at the WP%: .548/.545/.500/.500/.441. There is VERY little separation. And with 128 games left to play, I expect this is still very much anyone’s division.

But the Sox need to start playing better. Jake Peavy, who was supposed to have OWNED the Reds before last night’s contest, was mediocre at best, with a 6+ inning outing that included FOUR walks. Throwing 97 pitches, 59 for strikes, he gave up 3 runs on 4 hits–including a 2-run shot to a freaking guy named SKIP in the 3rd–while striking out 4. He then left the 7th with the bases loaded, and it was a miracle that Chris Capuano only allowed the 1 runner to score–and even that pisses me off. But I wil not get started on the whole “pitchers who allow inherited runners to score should be penalized for allowing those runners to score…”

    Moving on…

It’s nice to see the good stuff coming from Andrew Miller again. We all know he was kicking ass in 2013, and then he broke his foot in July and was done for the season. With the recent struggles of Tazawa, I would much rather see John Farrell go to Miller, who in 16 outings is 1-0 with a sparkling 1.84 ERA…

Neato stat: Mookie Betts, playing for the Sea Dogs this year has reached in 59 regular season games in a row, dating back to last year when he was with Single A Salem. He has also hit safely in 27 of his last 29 contests…Oh and he has a .402 BA…

And it looks like the Ryan Lavarnway, 1st baseman experiment is working. In 147 changes, he has only has 2 errors. Moving him to 1st certainly makes him more valuable to the Sox, both as a potential starter, or as trade bait…

His best inspiration? Look at Mike Napoli a career catcher who started playing 1st base for reals last year, and has an beautiful play in the 2nd, starting a double play that ended the inning

ootp-1 (3)Finally, the Red Sox, in partnership with the Highland Street Foundation, plan to bring the Fenway experience to local parks around the Boston area this summer, transporting the sights, sounds and tastes of the big game to locals free of charge.

Sunday, May 25 at 1:40pm at Ramsay Park at Jim Rice Field in Roxbury, Sunday, June 22 at 4:05pm at Franklin Park in Dorchester, and Sunday, July 27 at 1:40pm at Boston Common will all host Out of the Park events, supported by Boston Parks & Recreation and Mayor Martin Walsh. Folksare encouraged to arrive with a blanket and picnic and enjoy a live NESN broadcast of a Red Sox away game, shown on a giant projector screen.

Enjoy the seventh inning stretch by participating in giveaways or by meeting caricaturists, balloon artists and face painters. Hungry? Reminisce in familiar Fenway tastes with free Hood ice cream and famous Fenway Franks by Kayem. And adding to the atmosphere of a Fenway game, all events will feature Wally the Green Monster, Red Sox DJ TJ Connelly, the Hot Tamales Brass Band and a live game announcer.

Out of the Park is sponsored by the Highland Street Foundation, which is committed to addressing the needs and concerns of children and families in Massachusetts and California. Highland Street directs their efforts to provide access and opportunities in the areas of education, housing, mentorship, health care, the environment and the arts. You can get more info on this great organization here

Coming up: The 2nd day off this week (Bogus!) and then the Sox head to Texas and Minnesota for 3 each. Tomorrow night, That Clay Person vs Rangers Ace Yu Darvish, kicking off the weekend series. 1st pitch 8:10pm…
