    Red Sox 1, Oreos 2:
    Well, so much for 162-0

As IF…But it is fun to think about…

So the Sox dropped the first game of the 2014 Campaign against the Cookies, despite the fact that Jon Lester pitched a gem, going 7 strong, giving up 2 runs on 6 hits while walking 1 and striking out 8. He threw 104 pitches, 73 for strikes. And Junichi Tazawa threw a perfect 8th with a strikeout.

No, this one falls firmly in the hands of the offense, for which Grady Sizemore was responsible for the only Sox scoring, hitting a broken bat solo shot off Chris Tillman in the 4th inning. Otherwise, the Sox were 0-10 with RISP…NOT GOOD.

Looks like the way things are lining up, Jake Peavey will get the start against Milwaukee on Friday afternoon in the Fenway Opening. Don’t get me wrong, I like Jake (and the duck boat purchase was a nice touch), but I think as the newest guys on the roster, one of the veterans (such as Lackey or That Clay Person) should get the honor. Especially since it IS Ring Day…

And I think I said just last week that if Jackie Bradley, Jr. Didn’t beat out Grad Sizemore for the centerfield job, he wouldn’t be down in Pawtucket very long. I just didn’t think he would be back so soon. But, because Shane Victorino has come up lame with a strain in his right hamstring, he was placed in the DL, and Bradley, Jr was called up to fill his spot on the 25-man. The earliest Shane can come back is April 13th. Let’s hope that is enough time. Because, despite the fact I love seeing Jackie Bradley up in the Bigs, having an Opening day lineup of Grady Sizemore, Daniel Nava and Mike Carp is not exactly what I had in mind….

Speaking of not what I had in mind, I am concerned the Sox did not get a deal done with Jon Lester. Not sure what happened, as all signs seem to indicate a deal would be done before he threw his 1st pitch as Opening Day Starter for the 4th time. And now I am not sure what is going to happen. Are they going to continue talks? Or wait until the end of hte season. If it’s the latter, I think that is a foolish choice–Jon Lester is a known quantity, doesn’t get hurt, and is willing to take a hometown discount to finish his career in Boston. C’mon Ben, make him a decent deal and get this done…

Neato Stat: Grady Sizemore’s Opening Day Start was his first game in the bigs since September 22, 2011, or 922 days…

One more: Dustin Pedroia, with his 2 hits on Monday, is the only player from the Sox who has had at least 1 hit in every Opening Day game he has started in: All 8 of them…

Coming up: A day off today, where the Sox spent time at The White House, and Walter Reed Hospital, then tomorrow, the Sox play the 2nd game of 3 against the Oreos, and the first night game of the 2014 campaign. John Lackey takes the bump, opposed by Ubaldo Jimenez. 1st pitch 7:05pm
