Red Sox 4, Tampa Bay 2:
    Finally! A Win!

Posted by Christine E. at 5:23 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

Well, its 27 degrees here in NE Pennsylvania, and we even got a dusting of snow this morning. Yes, 5 Day before Opening Day. Freaking ought to be a law against that kind of crap.

But the Sox played like we expect them to. That Clay person pitched 6 strong, allowing 2 runs of 3 hits while striking out 5 and walking 2. His record for Spring Training? 3-2 with a 2.84 ERA. Now if he could stay HEALTHY…

Grady Sizemore hit a 2-run shot (his first in a Red Sox uniform) and Will Middlebrooks has a solo shot in the Sox win against Tampa Bay. Let’s hope this trend continues, because previous to that, they had lost their last 5 games, and, for only the 2nd time in the last 6 seasons, will have a losing Grapefruit League record. They were .500 last year…

Speaking of Middlebrooks, he has had a GREAT spring. In 41 AB, he is hitting .318 with only 3 strikeouts. I really hope this is his year. We need another good hitting 3rd baseman. I miss Mike Lowell…

So it is looking more and more like its Grady Sizemore’s job to lose in Center field, although things could get interesting if Shane Victorino’s nagging little injuries become a thing. As it is, he started late because of his thumb surgery in the offseason. he missed yesterday because his side hurts, and he has only play 8 games so far this season…Troubling stuff…In any event, the choice will happen this weekend, as the Sox leave for Baltimore on Saturday evening to prepare for Monday’s afternoon game…

And then on Tuesday, the Sox will head to the White House where the President will honor the Defending World Champions at 11:15am. The Sox will also visit Walter Reed to visit with wounded soldiers…

Finally, with Spring Training almost over, the Nation will have to deal with a sad and complicated issue: what the heck is going to happen with RemDawg? Can he really be the color guy for the Red Sox while his son stands trial for allegedly murdering his girlfriend and the mother of his child? The same son who has a very long history of violence against men and women alike? Can we listen to him laugh and joke with DO, and not feel just a little bit freaked out, and angry? Some people think he should be fired for enabling his son’s beyond horrible behavior that was almost guaranteed to end in a tragedy like this.

While I don’t think he should be fired for loving and supporting his kid (even one who is as much of a sorry excuse for a human being as his son). I hope he does the right thing and resigns, or at least take a long leave of absence because while I understand that getting back to work is how he wants to cope with this senseless tragedy, but is that really fair if it’s at the expense of everyone else?

Coming up: 3 more Spring Training Games to go. OMG, Can we get ON with it already???
