    February 4, 2014:
    Eleven. More. Days.

I’m not a fan of football in the least, and did not watch even 10 seconds of Sunday’s contest, or the funny-sad-stupid commercials that came with it. And for me, it’s just the last hurdle we had to face so we can get to the important business at hand:

Pitchers and Catchers in 11 days! Baseball is upon us! Holy Buckets! And Red Sox players have already started arriving in Fort Myers, including Jackie Bradley Jr, Will Middlebrooks, Daniel Nava, and Blake Swihart, among others…

And…They are calling for another 6-10 inches of snow tonight here in NE Pennsylvania. Outstanding…

So, Daniel Bard has signed a minor league contract last week with the “Dark Bright Blue Team” aka the Texas Rangers. Interesting. Maybe a change of scenery will do him good, because he was going nowhere fast in Boston, which is a shame, because he was THAT guy–until he got it in his head that he reallyREALLY needed to be a starter in 2012 (Another bad call in the year of LOTS of bad calls)…and it all went to hell in a hand basket. I’d like to see him turn himself around–as long as it’s not when Texas is playing the Sox…

His abysmal line for 2013, primarily in hte minors: 15.2 IP, giving up 13 runs on 14 hits while walking 29 (!!!), striking out 10, 11(!!) wild pitches, and a 7.73 ERA…Mike Maddux (Greg’s brother–and the Ranger’s pitching coach) certainly has his work cut out for him here./.

So apparently, the Sox have offered Stephen Drew a 2-year deal, which if he had any brains at all, he would tell Satan to SHUT IT, and grab it with both hands. Because, really? Are more years (there is speculation theirs is a 3-year deal) really worth playing for the METS??? Don’t get me wrong, I have no issue with the Mets, other than the fact that Fred Wilpon is a classless jerk, and oh, yeah, they suck…

So Bronson Arroyo is still a free agent–and he was 14-12 with a 3.79 ERA, with 2 complete games, and 202 innings with the Reds in 2013. And this is the guy who wore cornrows in the 2004 postseason–that right there should be enough for a 2nd look…

Yes, the Sox have an impressive starting 5 on tap for the 2014 Campaign: Jon Lester, John Lackey, That Clay Person, Jake Peavy and Felix Doubront. And Ryan Dempster as the backup. But you can never have. Too. Much. Pitching…

    I’m not sayin–but I’m sayin….

Coming up: Holy Crap! 4 DAYS to Truck Day! The 18-wheeler will leave the Fens around noon on Saturday, February 8th, for the 1480 mile jaunt to Fort Myers and JetBlue Park. Whoo Hoo!
