    Sox vs Cleveland…

Whoo Hoo! I’m going back to Fenway! Just wish it wasn’t 5+ months away–When its 4 degrees and the wind chill is -11, the warm sunny days at Fenway seem very VERY far away…

Of course, a game in the Holy Land is reason enough to be excited, but Terry Francona will be there! Yeah, I have to look at Nick Swisher (Blech) and the other random reject Skanks they have playing for them, but I will always have a soft spot for Tito–even if I don’t think he should have beaten John Farrell out for Manager of the Year…and it will be my daughter’s first game in the Fens, so I am WAY excited for that…

Ho Hum, it’s the end of January, time for David Ortiz to start bitching about a contract extension. Who had January 26th in the pool? Honestly, the only thing he didn’t throw out there yet was the infamous “it’s all about respect” line–but I am sure it’s coming. This time it was if he doesn’t get a multiyear deal, it “might be time to move on.” Holy Hell. Really Big Papi? Do you really think this is necessary? Do you actually think that the Sox sign you, year after year, because you whine to the press? You are an icon in Boston; you are the greatest clutch hitter the Sox have EVER had, who has carried this team on his shoulders more times than we can count. So a little dignity please.   If a deal makes sense, its gonna happen–It’s not like you’re broke and need the money…Honestly.

And then you have Jon Lester, who is willing to work with the team, and actually leave money on the table, if it offers him the opportunity to play for the only team he has ever played for. He weighs in: “I want to stay here. This is what I’ve known. I’ve grown up in this organization…It’s hard to talk a deal now. I just can’t really fathom signing a piece of paper like a Tanaka deal. Kershaw … is completely out of the realm. But you look at these deals, it’s out of this world. It’s stuff you can’t even imagine until it’s put in front of you. Until that day comes, it’s hard to talk about it. But the stuff you can talk about, like wanting to stay here and compete — that’s what we want to do.” 2014 is the last year of his current contract…

So. Jerry Remy has announced that he will be back as NESN’s color man for Red Sox games for the 2014 Campaign. And while I am glad he will be back, the whole situation is controversial and the debates are already starting. We all know the story: His son Jared, who had a past of domestic violence, was arrested last August and charged for the murder of Jennifer Martel, his longtime girlfriend, and mother of his child. After it happened, RemDawg took the rest of the season off. Even up until his press conference yesterday, no one knew what was going to happen, if he’ll be back, or he wouldn’t be back, especially since his son’s hearing isn’t scheduled until October of this year. But after a lot of soul searching he has decided to return and see how it goes. And of course the 64,000 questions are: Can he be the same guy he has always been on-air? And if he can, will people be ok with that? I guess we will see–on both counts…

Finally, it appears that beards are passé’, and that the wild crazy facial hair which came to symbolize the 2013 Boston Red Sox will be no more. John Farrell had this to say: “We’ve come to an agreement that when we get on the field we’ll be cleaned up.” While I don’t think this means they will do the no facial hair (except for, inexplicably, porn mustaches) thing like the Skanks, I guess there wil be no more crazy beard pulling in the dugout. I think change is good, and with Napoli, Gomes, et al, I can’t WAIT to see what they come up with next…

Coming up: Less than 2 weeks to Truck Day–Next Friday February 8th is the unofficial start of Red Sox baseball! And Less than 3 weeks to Pitchers and Catchers, which is Saturday, February 15th…Holy Buckets! Baseball is coming! Whoo Hoo!
