    January 11, 2014: Will Middlebrooks and
    Good Sports Keep Kids in the Game
    with Equipment Donation

    DSC 0630On Thursday, January 9th, at 6:00pm, Good Sports, a Boston-based nonprofit that provides athletic equipment to community organizations and promotes healthy, active lifestyles to disadvantaged youth, and Red Sox third baseman Will Middlebrooks teamed up to donate more than $2,000 worth of athletic equipment and apparel to the Bird Street Community Center, Dorchester, MA.

    Approximately 50-75 youth were in attendance to receive and test out their brand new equipment. In addition Middlebrooks took photos with the kids, signed autographs and ran a skills demonstration with a short question and answer session.

    DSC 0651With a small budget that has hindered the expansion of its athletic programs, the Bird Street Community Center struggles to provide equipment for its youth, the majority of which come from low-income homes. In support of their commitment to providing a safe environment for underprivileged youth in Dorchester to stay active, Good Sports’ donation of more than $2,000 worth of basketball, baseball, volleyball and fitness equipment allows program to continue to support 200 at-risk youth, who otherwise would not have access to sports and fitness programs.
