    Red Sox 6, Cardinals 1:
    Holy Buckets! 3 in 10!

Posted by Christine E. at 6:01 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

There are about 457,000 thoughts running around in my head this morning with regard to last night’s win, and the fact that the Red Sox have won their 3rd World Series in 10 years, AND their first at Fenway Park since 1918.

But since I am horribly sleep deprived, AND it’s Halloween (I am dressed as a Red Sox fan, natch) AND 457,000 is a pretty big number, I’ll just share a few…

First of all. I am still in shock as to how this season finished up. This is the team I actively HATED at the end of last season. 69 wins. All I did was bitch about them ALL last summer, to the point when I seriously considered hanging up Boston Red Thoughts and moving on to something else. Yes. Seriously. I was thisclose to being done.

But then Bobby V was fired like 4 seconds after the season was over, and John Farrell was installed as Manager, and Ben Cherington (who may even have better street cred in Boston than Theo at this point) was able to make some great moves in the offseason, signing guys who had the kind of vibe that I like to see in a Red Sox player: Non-whining, willing to play hard and play the game right, and “gets” playing in Boston…

So I figured: “OK, If they can win 83-85 games, and be a team I can LIKE and enjoy watching again, I’ll be happy”

Saying that they fulfilled my expectations–and then some, would be the understatement of the century.

Every player on the Red Sox roster had the potential to come up big all year. EVERY. PLAYER. The list is endless of how they picked each other up All. Season. Long…

And would ANYONE in a million years have expected John Lackey, JOHN LACKEY to be the winning pitcher of the Clinching game of the World Series?? Uh, no. To me, he was pretty much the personification of all things wrong with the Sox–so for him to do a complete 180 was astounding. So you can file that one under the “I woulda thought you were NUTS” column. Truly.

And Koji Uehara has been a REVELATION this year–and honestly, I cannot remember a time when we had a closer that was THAT automatic. If David Ortiz was not the complete and utter shoe-in for MVP, A compelling case could have been made for Koji…

It was asked on Twitter last night: “what do you think Adrian Gonzales and Carl Crawford think?” I really don’t know, and frankly I really don’t care, but I am SURE it’s some kind of WHINING about SOMETHING–‘Cause that is just how they roll…

As I mentioned on Facebook, in honor of Kevin Millar and the 2004 Red Sox, I did a shot before last night’s game. Of Jack Daniels. Owned by a Yankee Fan. And I was REALLY glad there wasn’t a game 7, because I had forgotten how NASTY Jack was–and I really didn’t want to have to do it again. I WOULD have–just glad I don’t…

Coming up: Well, the last game of the 2013 Campaign has been played, and I know how very lucky we Red Sox and Cardinals fans were to have been part of that contest. So now we look to see if Jake will get his 42 year, BILLION dollar contract, and if the other faces we have grown to know and love this year will be returning. But no matter what, there will be baseball again. In 107 Days Pitchers and Catchers Report, and in 150, the 2014 Campaign will begin, and the Boston Red Sox will be the Defending World Series Champions…

Wow. I reallyREALLY like the sound of that…

As for me, I think I’m gonna take a couple days to catch up on my sleep, and bask in the glory of being a Red Sox fan…
