    Red Sox 4, Cardinals 5,
    Red Sox 4, Cardinals 2:
    Series Tied 2-2

Posted by Christine E. at 5:40 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

I don’t even know where to begin.

The last 2 games in a row have been decided/ended by completely crazy random crap that can only happen because its baseball and baseball is where all the crazy “you can’t make this sh*t up” stuff happens…

Saturday night was the completely bizarro obstruction call that sent everyone into a complete tailspin, and will be talked about LONG after this series is over. And then there was last night, where Carlos Beltran comes to the plate as the tying run, with rookie Kolton Wong on 1st base, and Koji, who I don’t think has even THROWN to 1st base once during this post season, catches the kid napping and PICKS HIM OFF, thereby ending the game, and leaving Beltran standing at home plate…

And the weirdness didn’t even START there…

And, because Shane Victorino was a late scratch with back tightness, Johnny Gomes was the #5 guy–when he Ne-VA Ev-VA should be the #5 guy, and hits a 3-run shot in the 6th inning to put the Sox ahead for good.

How about That Clay Person and his gritty and gutsy 4 inning performance?  Throwing 66 pitches, 38 for strikes, giving up 1 unearned run on 3 hits while walking 3 and striking out 2. And Holy Hell, I was having flashbacks to Curtis Leskanic in 2004, because every time Clay threw a pitch, I was afraid his freaking ARM was gonna fall RIGHT the hell off…

Then Felix Doubront came in for the 2nd time in 2 days, and was DEALING, throwing 2.2 innings of 1 hit, 1 run ball, striking out 3 and walking none for his 1st World Series win…

And this it where it really started to get weird: John Lackey comes out and pitches a perfect 8th inning–Could ANYONE have imagined that John Lackey, JOHN LACKEY would be “that guy”? Especially after 2011 and 2012? Not me–I actively hated him for most of those 2 years…Not anymore, he has become a teammate on this ballclub, and if that isn’t redemption, I am not sure what is…

Apparently, Jon Lester told pitching coach Juan Nieves that we has willing to pitch in last night’s contest AND make his start today.

So, after tonight, the Sox have at least 1, possibly 2 more games to play. Jon Lester gets the start tonight, and I would assume Lackey gets the start Wednesday for Game 6. Who pitches game 7??? Lester on 3 days rest? Peavy, who has been screwing the pooch this postseason? Or does Felix Doubront start the game, go as long as he can, and then John Farrell pulls a Joe Maddon and throw everyone out there? Of course it will be all hands on deck, as it would be the last game of the 2013 season–it’s just fracking SCARY…

But no matter what happens tonight, the Sox are going home to Fenway for at least Game 6–and then we can knock it off with the freaking no DH thing that has been KILLING the Sox for the last 2 games. And I have said it before…how does 3 games in a NL park IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SERIES constitute Home Field Advantage? I don’t get it…

Neato Stat: Xander Bogaerts (LOVE that kid!)became the 3rd youngest player to hit a triple in the World Series, and the 1st one since 1952, when Mickey Mantle was 20 when did it. The other? None other than a 20-year old Ty Cobb–on 1907…

Finally: I have 1 number for you that says it all that needs to be said about David Ortiz completely deserving the title of Mr. October: .727. What is that number? I am glad you asked. THAT is The Large Father’s BATTING AVERAGE for the World Series. Let that sink in. 727. The ONLY other person to have higher? Cincinnati’s Billy Hatcher in 1990, with a .750…

Coming up: A rematch of Game 1, Lester vs Wainwright. Let’s hope the outcome is the same, although I don’t think Wainwright is going go down like he did last week. 1st pitch: 8:07pm…

Oh, and let’s see how long Buck and McCarver HARP on Jon Lester’s Glove this evening. Oh, how I cannot WAIT until McCarver retires…

    Let’s. Do. This.
