    October 15, 2013:
    Basking in the Afterglow

    Posted by Christine E. at 3:59 pm in Baseball,Old Friends,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comments (2)

    I have a confession…

I did not stay up to see the end of Sunday’s contest. I was sick, and the Sox were aggravating the hell out of me, and it was 5-1, and I was tired and cranky, and figured I had no desire to watch them get spanked by the Tiger AGAIN.

    So I went to bed.

Just like I went to bed in 2004, when it looked like the Sox were going to get swept by the Skanks, and I had NO desire to see that. Yep. I missed it all: THE steal, Bill Mueller scoring Dave Roberts to tie the game, and Big Papi’s 2 run shot in the 12th to win the game.

I really should know better by now.

But now the series is tied 1-1, and we get 3 at Comerica Park, and if need be, they will return to Fenway for 2 more this weekend. And I know I have mentioned this before, but how is this 2-3-2 split thing considered to be home field advantage for the best team in the AL? Still not super clear on that…

But I am sure we can all see the irony in the fact that Jose Iglesias made the error that lead to the winning, unearned run…

Is it me, or is this Tigers team a little whiny these days? Justin Verlander is whining about Shane Victorino getting hit all the time, insinuating that he does it on purpose: “I’ve seen some pitches that he got hit on that were strikes. I just think whoever is the home plate umpire needs to be aware that he’s up there. Anything on the inner half, occasionally he’s looking to get hit.” Whine Whine Whine…

And then there is Torii Hunter (SHOCKING, I know) whining about the fact that the cop in the bullpen was cheering when he face planted himself trying to catch Big Papi’s grand slam Sunday night…And I am sorry, this doesn’t feel like joking to me: “The cop’s supposed to be protect and serve — this son of a gun got his hands up. I better not ever see him again. Help me, then cheer, fool…They [The bullpen] put that aside and tried to take care of human life — unlike the cop…Terrible. Protect and serve, take that off his badge.” Whine Whine Whine…

Finally, our friends at eTrueSports, have once again gotten the inside scoop–and this time its personal. Since she apparently has all this free time these days, Minnesota Tea Bag politician Michele Bachmann Calls For Investigation of Red Sox, citing “The beards, the Red name, it all just makes me queasy,” as her reason for the inquiry. She was also quoted as saying: “Think about it people, almost every Commie you see wears a beard.”

Nicely done, Michele. You can read the whole story here

Coming up: Game 3, the Sox and the Tigers are tied 1-1, and the festivities are moving to Comerica Park in Detroit for tonight’s contest. Justin Verlander makes his 1st start of the ALCS, opposed by John Lackey. 1st pitch: 4:07pm.

And maybe, could the Sox get a hit BEFORE the 6th inning this time? Ya know, just to mix it up?
