Red Sox 3, Tampa Bay 1:
    We’re goin to the ALCS!

Posted by Christine E. at 2:50 am in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

Holy Hell. With the exception of the outcome, that was probably one of the most fracked up games I have ever watched in my ENTIRE life…NINE pitchers for Tampa Bay, no one pitching more than 2 innings, a game that seem to only consist of double plays and strikeouts. A game where SOMEONE should have finally drilled Eva(n) Longoria in the ass, after Shane Victorino was hit TWICE in this game alone (and FOUR times in the series).

But Jake Peavy was all that–exactly what the Sox wanted when they traded for him in July: 5.2 IP, throwing 74 pitches, 49 for strikes, giving up 1 runs on 5 hits while walking none and striking out 3.

Craig Breslow, Junichi Tazawa and Koji brilliantly finished the game for Jake, throwing 3.1 of 1 hit ball, while walking 1 and striking out 7…

And then there was Tampa Bay:

Jeremy Hellickson and Jamey Wright: 1 inning each.
Matt Moore and Alex Torres: 2 innings each.
    Joel Peralta 1.1 innings.
Jake McGee: 2/3 of an inning.
Fernando Rodney, Chris Archer and Wesley Wright: 1/3 inning each

What…The…FRACK? Makes no sense to me..While it was a must win–this was NOT game 5. What the hell would Maddon have done if this game had went to extra innings? I know David Price would have started a game 5, but even Maddon admits he would have used him too, if he needed too….this is just crazy ass crap…and yes, he would have been called a genius if it has worked–but it didn’t…

Bit O’ Trivia: of the players on the 25-man for this series, only 1 did not seem any game time: Felix Doubront. Coincidence? Or something more?

But one, suggestion, as a follow-up to yesterdays’ blog post: Can we get Matt Thornton up for the ALCS, and get rid of Brandon Workman? Ben? John? Thanks so much…

So the Sox get home field advantage in the ALCS–so how exactly is the 1st 2 and the LAST 2 games of the 7 game series an advantage? It goes: 2 Games in Boston, a day off, THREE games in either Oakland or Detroit, and then 2 more in Boston (if they are needed). I guess it’s an advantage if you go to 7 games, but honestly, who wants it to go 7 games? Unless you have tickets to a game 5-6 or 7, or are MLB, FOX, or TBS, or your team is down 0-3, everyone wants its done as quickly as possible…

Coming up: The Sox hang out and get some rest, while they wait for Oakland and Detroit to battle it out Thursday night for all the marbles. I reallyREALLY hope its Oakland, cause I think the Tigers can be problematic–but then again, playing a Left Coast team will require some late nights–So we’ll see.. Game 1 of the ALCS starts Saturday. Opponent and Starter (although I expect it will be Jon Lester…)and 1st Pitch: TBA…
