Red Sox 4, Toronto 2, In 11 Innings:
    Far too long.

    I don’t get it.

How can the Sox take 11 innings to beat a team with a record of 54-65, and are DEAD LAST at 17GB in the AL East? I know, I know: Baseball. Fickle Mistress. Blah Blah Blah…

But ya know what was MOST shocking about this game? That Ryan freaking Dempster put on a CLINIC last night, pitching 7 strong innings of 1 run baseball, giving up 4 hits )(NO homers) while walking 2 and striking out 4. He threw and economical 88 pitches, 52 for strikes. And the 2nd shocking was: Junichi Tazawa blew his 6TH save last night, giving up the tying run to the 1st batter he faced in the 8th inning…

But Shane Victorino saved Sox bacon in the top of the 11th with a 2 run single, and ended this game before it could get crazy out of hand…

Looks like catcher David Ross will finally be back soon, after being on the 60 day DL with a concussion. He played with AA Portland over the weekend and with Pawtucket last night. Eligible to be activated on Saturday the 17th, he is expected to miss the Skankee series, and he ready to go for the middle of the night games on the Left Coast next week…

And That Clay person, who had a pretty aggressive bullpen today, may actually pitch a simulated game this weekend, when the Sox stop home to play 3 against the Skanks. That is, provided his arm doesn’t fall off, or he doesn’t break a nail or something. After that, it’s quite possible he will progress to minor league rehab work–Maybe…

Ryan Kalish, who I STILL think will get right, and have a MONSTER year for the Sox (and I will keep saying that until he does, gets traded, or retires…) had his FOURTH surgery in a little under 2 years yesterday–a cervical fusion. All 4 of his surgeries were on his neck and shoulder–and all have come from a diving catch he made in 2011 while playing at Pawtucket…Kalish hopes that is this it–and hopes to be ready by Spring Training 2014…Me too, Ryan, Me too…

Crappy awful stat: Mike Napoli struck out 3 times for the 2nd game in the row last night–Thank makes 158 so far for 2013. He is on pace for 209, which BLOWS AWAY the dubious record of Mark Bellhorn, who had 177 in 2004. Blech.

Much better stat: Will Middlebrooks, released from his banishment to Pawtucket, is batting .416 (5-12) since being back in the bigs. He had a good night last night, going 2-5 with a single, a double and scoring a run…My friend Paul from Boston thinks that Middlebrooks is the key–as he goes, so will the Red Sox…

From the Schadenfreude files: Manny Ramirez has been released by the Rangers, after playing 30 games with their AAA ballclub. He is now a free agent. Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha…

Coming up: Games 2 of the 3 game series against Toronto, Jon Lester, who will hopefully be better than his LAST outing (And unfortunately, we say that more often than not anymore.), takes the bump, opposed by Emil Rogers, who, on paper, seems pretty sucky (3-7, 5.12 ERA) AND, it seems as Toronto is the only team this year Lester CAN consistently beat, as he is currently 3-0 against them for the 2013 Campaign. 1st Pitch: 7:07pm.
