    Red Sox 7, Astros 5:
    Far Too Labored

Posted by Christine E. at 5:45 pm in Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

This whole series, even the first game where the Sox bats were silenced, just felt like FAR too much energy was expended to beat a team that is 37-76, and 27 (yes, TWENTY SEVEN) games out of 1st in the AL West. The Sox outscored the Astros 22-17 in 3 games–but giving up SEVENTEEN runs to the worst team in baseball?

Add to that the fact that if it wasn’t for Stephen Drew hitting that 3-run shot in the 9th inning to save Red Sox bacon, they would have LOST 2 out of 3, rather than won that many. Too much fracking WORK, I tell ya…

And then there is the continuing saga of Ryan Dempster, who really just can’t help putting the Sox in a bad position. No, 5 runs on 7 hits (including a homer) while walking none throwing a wild pitch, and striking out 7 in 6 innings or work is better than the debacle that was his last start (where he gave up 7 runs), but we see his ERA keep creeping up, up up…HOLY HELL…

If That Clay Person every actually pitches again in 2013 (and the answer to that depends on the day, the phase of the moon, and who you ask) I hope to hell the Sox get Dempster the hell out of the rotation–cause he is not doing this team any favors…

Speaking of, Buchholtz threw 27 pitches in the bullpen earlier this week. If all goes well, there will be another session on Friday. He weighs in: “It was night and day compared to that (his last bullpen in early June, right after the injury). It’s been awhile since I’ve thrown with any kind of intensity off a mound. A little sore I guess from all the stuff we’ve been doing. But it’s different than the last time I was on the mound.” But of course, we get the disclaimer: “I’m not really sure how long it’s going to take, but I’m on my way…”

Best case scenario? End of August. My guess? Mid September…

Oh, and in case you were keeping score at home, last night’s win was the 70th of 2013 campaign. Already one more than the Sox won ALL OF LAST YEAR, and are on pace to win 98 games this year…

Neato Stat: In the 8 games since Jose Inglesias was traded for Jake Peavey, Stephen Drew has stepped up–BIG TIME, hitting .464 with 7 RBI’s and 2 homers. Wouldn’t be surprised if a Player of the Week award isn’t in his future, if he keeps this up.

So, MLB wants David Ortiz to pay a $5,000 fine for freaking out and bashing the telephone at Camden Yards last month. The Large Father’s response is that the amount is too high, and he didn’t start it, so he is appealing the fine. Ya know what? Just shut up and pay the fracking fine, Papi. You lost your temper and acted like an idiot, and you destroyed someone elses crap–you should be held accountable for that…

Finally, our friend at eTrueSports continue to rip the lid off all the scandal and craziness that is A-Rod, with the latest being that Russian President Vladimir Putin has offered Alex Rodriguez political asylum. Good.  How soon can he go? You can check it all out here.

Coming up: 4 games against the surging KC Royals, who have won their last 13 out of 15 games. Jon Lester, looking for his 11th win, kicks off the series against old friend Bruce Chen. First pitch: 8:10pm.
