    Red Sox 8, Skanks 7 — In 11:
    What an Ugly UGLY game…

Posted by Christine E. at 6:35 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

    Blech….

About the only thing that went right with this game was the fact that the Sox Won. There were too many errors, too many pitching mistakes, too many strikeouts,–just a bunch of crap from beginning to end…

Thankfully, Mike Napoli saved the Sox bacon in the 11th with a solo home run to get the Sox the 2 out of the 3 I was expecting for this weekend…

But, if I were a betting girl, my odds would have been on them losing last night. Of the 7 runs the Skanks scored, only FOUR of them were actually earned, due to the THREE errors in last night’s contest…

I think the whole evening can best be summed up by a Haiku:

    Yucky from the start

    Mike Napoli saves the Day

    Barely…Just…barely…

And W…T…F…was the whole standing ovation for Mariano Rivera nonsense on Saturday night? I get it. He is one of the best, and he is retiring. But unless I missed a memo he was not retiring THIS WEEKEND, or even TODAY. There are 3 more games in the Fens in September, and I could see doing it for the last game or something, but Holy Hell, is this going to become a “thing?” Sorry, I think it’s a bush league, pink hat move. There is time enough for accolades at the END OF THE SEASON…

That Clay Person is FINALLY doing what he should have done weeks ago–Go see Dr. Andrews. He hasn’t pitched in nearly 2 months (JUNE 8th) and says he is still hurting–and doesn’t want to pitch until he is without pain. Uh, Clay, you are a Major League baseball player–is there really a day goes by that something doesn’t hurt?? He needs Dr. Andrews to tell him 1. You have some sort of real, qualifiable injury that requires “X”, or 2: You are fine, so you just need to suck it up, buttercup, and get your skinny ass back on that mound…

I know we don’t usually do a standings breakout with teams other than the Skanks, but since this series is a big deal coming up, I think it may be time for an exception. So…

    To the Blackboard!

Let’s recap. The Sox are 1st in the AL, 1.5 games ahead of Tampa Bay, and they are playing 4 this week. Thus far, the 2 teams have played 12 times, with the Sox winning 75% of those games, for a 9-3 record.

If the Sox sweep (Highly unlikely): They would have a nice hefty 5.5 game lead in the AL, and with less than 60 games to go, it’s a very nice place to be…

If the Sox win 3: (Possible, although, the way Tampa Bay is playing, maybe not.): 3.5 games ahead in the division.

The Sox win 2: Complete split, nothing changes, except for the magic #, which is currently 62 going into tonight’s game. (The Skanks is 57, in case you were interested…)

If the Sox win 1: a measly .5 games will separate 1st and 2nd place in the AL East…and that is where it gets interesting…

If the Sox are swept: They will end up where Tampa bay is now, 1.5GB in the division…

Bottom line: I think this series will be a split. These are 2 good teams, and while Tampa has struggled against the Sox in 2013, they have won like their last 17 of 19 games, not to mention winning their last 7 series, or some crazy such thing…

Coming up: Probably one of the most pivotal series of the 2013 Campaign starts tonight, when the Sox face the red hot Tampa Bay Rays. Brandon Workman, who took a no-hitter into the 7th inning in his 1st major league start against Oakland, goes for his 1st win, opposed by All-Star starter, Matt Moore. This could be a tough one. 1st pitch 7:10pm…
