    June 25, 2013:
    Heading Home…

Posted by Christine E. at 5:48 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

After yesterday’s off-day, the Sox are in the Fens for 9 games which sees them facing Colorado, Toronto and the Giants…and after the crappy record in the last 9 (3-6), let’s hope the next 9 see improvement–cause the Sox need to be able to beat good teams–and find SOME way to beat the stinkin Cookies…

And HOLY BUCKETS! What is going on with Toronto? They locked, stocked and loaded in the off-season, and everyone thought they were going to be a force to be reckoned with, only to start the season 27 and 36, and something like 12 games out of 1st place–Now, they have won their last ELEVEN of TWELVE, and they are only 5.5 games behind the Sox, who have managed to keep their 1st place lead (2.5 games ahead of the tied Skanks and Oreos..

And while I am not a betting girl, I think the odds are pretty good that the Sox will be able to win the division–but I also think with only 5.5 games currently separating everyone in the AL East, it’s going to be very interesting….

But the Sox reallyREALLY need to get That Clay Person back–because all of a sudden, it seems like the rotation depth is an issue. Allen Webster has made 2 spot starts, and got lit up both times, You never know WHAT the hell you are going to get with Alfredo Aceves, Jon Lester was doing great on Friday, until he started to unravel in the 5th inning, and only very active bats maintained his win and prevented the Sox from being swept, Felix Doubront is Meh, Ryan Dempster, while pitching better than his 4-8 record indicates, he is still…4 and 8. John Lackey is like Dempster, to a lesser degree, and hopefully will start being more consistent…

That Clay Person is eligible to come off the yesterday, but since he is still throwing off flat ground, and will need at least 1 rehab start, since he hasn’t pitched since June 8th, it could still be a while. Frack!

And then there is Franklin Morales, who has been off the DL for about 20 minutes, but appears headed back there, for the ongoing pectoral strain that required him to start the season on the DL. He is being examined in Boston and the decision will then be made. Holy hell…

Fortunately, it looks like the Flyin Hawaiian will not have to return to the DL AGAIN, after leaving the game on Sunday with back issues, AGAIN.

Speaking of back issues–it appears Kevin Youkilis is done for the 2013 campaign, having had herniated disk surgery last week, and is out for at least 10-12 weeks. As much as I love Kevin Youkilis–obviously trading him when the Sox did was a VERY good idea…

Coming up: Ryan Dempster takes to the mound to kick off the 9 game home series, and the 3 games again Colorado, who, the last item they were at Fenway, was for Game 1 of the 2007 World Series–and the Sox spanked them 13-1. He is opposed by Juan Nicasio. 1st pitch: 7:10pm…
