    February 21, 2013:
    Spare me the Fish Analogies…

Posted by Christine E. at 5:28 pm in Baseball,BBA,Old Friends,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

    Right after I use one…

Apparently, we now have a fish of our own (although I would rather the Trout variety…), as the Sox have acquired Mariners 1st baseman/outfielder Mike Carp for either cash or a PTBNL. Unfortunately, he is one of THOSE–LOTS Of promise, but injuries have prevented him from reaching his “true potential”.  A career .255 hitter, he was limited to 59 games and a .213 BA for his sophomore season in 2012…He will battle against veteran Lyle Overbay to be the backup to Mike Napoli…

As I mentioned yesterday, That Clay Person threw BP yesterday. If no after affects are felt, he will throw a simulated game over the weekend, and then will be slotted in for an actual game. John Farrell weighs in: “…Thirty pitches, which is consistent with starters who threw their first round of live BP. He came out of today feeling good about himself. He used all his pitches. It was an impressive work day.”

Also working yesterday was Felix Doubront, who threw his first bullpen of the 2013 campaign, with no ill effects…still no definitive word on when he will see live hitters.

Alfredo Aceves, citing a “miscommunication” for his nonsense over the weekend (sounds like a crock to me, but whatever), is behaving himself–for the moment anyway-throwing excellent batting practice yesterday…

Holy Buckets! The first lineup of 2013–for today’s 7 inning contest again Northeastern University, which happened at 1:35pm:

    Jacoby Ellsbury CF

    Dustin Pedroia 2B

    Shane Victorino RF

    Jonny Gomes LF

    Jarrod Saltalamacchia DH

    Will Middlebrooks 3B

    Stephen Drew SS

    Lyle Overbay 1B

    David Ross C

Pitching: RHP Joel Hanrahan followed by RHP Daniel Bard, LHP Andrew Miller, RHP Alex Wilson, RHP Clayton Mortensen, RHP Pedro Beato, RHP Anthony Carter.

As the complement to Kevin Youkilis’ statement from last week about how he “will always be a Red Sock”, this is what he had to say about the Skanks (and yes folks, the facial hair is gone): “…I’m a New York Yankee in 2013 and that’s what I’m focusing on…I think we have a great team over here. It’s going to be fun.”

Finally, I lent my opinion to BBA President Emeritus, Daniel Shoptaw, about the Red Sox 2013 Campaign for his 5th annual “Playing Pepper” series on his blog, C70 At The Bat. Also participating were Sox Bloggers Steve Peterson, author of BoSox Injection, Rebecca Binder of Fenway Fatales on the Aerys Sports blog network, and Ruben Lipszyc from the Canadian blog Red Sox Nation-Alberta. Some good stuff, check it out!

Coming up: The Grapefruit League kicks off at home against Tampa Bay on Saturday. Already got my confirmation that I am all set with MLB.TV, and since the game WILL be televised, I actually get to see LIVE BASEBALL the day after tomorrow. Holy Buckets! Getting his 1st start of the season (if you can all 35 pitches, or 2 innings, whatever comes first, a start) John Lackey will take the mound. First pitch: 1:35pm…
