    February 20, 2013:
    Opening the Thought Locker

Posted by Christine E. at 8:43 pm in Baseball,Old Friends,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

Going round the horn, (or the bend, depending on who you ask)with some random goings on during this first full week of Spring Training.

I was talking to my friend, Paul from Boston this week, and we both pretty much agree that we want the goal for this year’s campaign to be that the games be fun, and we LIKE this team. If they win, so much the better, but after the last year and a half of the cranky, entitled brats, a team of guys who like what they do, and play hard, would be a
    welcome change…

And I think Jon Farrell will go A LONG way in doing that. In his first team meeting last week, he basically broke it down into 2 basic rules: Be on time and be professional. And we all know he is a no nonsense kind of guy, who just sits back and watches, and then addresses things. There will be no theatrics, or Japanese musical videos, or making it all about him–Holy Buckets! How nice will THAT be??

But I think, in order for that to happen, Alfredo Aceves needs to GO–RIGHT NOW…During batting practice over the weekend, he decided that it would be a good idea to throw eephus pitches during batting practice. What the frack? John Farrell basically said its been addressed and wouldn’t say any more–and hopefully that is the end of it–but I think Aceves, while a GREAT pitcher, is a spoiled rotten CHILD, who if he doesn’t get to start or close, throws these little passive aggressive tantrums, but who needs to toe the line, or get gone…

And the truth about Felix Doubront is starting to come out. Not only is he having shoulder issues, Apparently, he is taking a chapter out of the Josh Beckett book of crappy Red Sox pitching, arriving at Spring Training heavier than the team would have liked, making this the 2nd year in a row he has done this. Honestly, will these guys EVER freaking learn? This is your JOB, lay off the FroYo in the offseason and come to spring training in shape, Capise? But apparently, Pedro, in his new capacity as Special Assistant to the GM is going to take him under his wing, and lead him on the path of righteousness..He could do much worse than Pedro Martinez as a mentor…

Speaking of never learning, Adrian Gonzalez and Carl Crawford were whining about their time with the Red Sox. Well, guys, its seems to me that the team paid out a VERY large sum of money, and the results ranged from competent, to complete and utter disaster, and now you want to bitch about the “chemistry” and how “toxic” it was? Seems to me that your nonsense (on the field and off) contributed to that crappiness, so perhaps it would be a good idea to SHUT IT??

Speaking of shutting it, it probably wasn’t a super idea for Kevin Youkilis to say what he said last weekend, even if I (and probably every other Sox fan) thought it was really cool: “…To negate all the years I played for the Boston Red Sox, and all the tradition, you look at all the stuff I have piled up at my house and to say I’d just throw it out the window, it’s not true. I’ll always be a Red Sock.” I am SURE that will endear you to Skankee fans everywhere…

Looks like Stephen Drew may FINALLY be over his ankle injury that ate up most of last season, working with no restrictions so far in camp…If he is truly right, the 1-year $9 million deal will have been a good one for the SOX…

Also on the mend is That Clay Person, who tweaked his hamstring last week during the first P & C workout. He threw a bullpen session of 45 pitches on Monday, and threw live BP today, and everything seems to be ok. I guess nothing fell off or anything…

And John Farrell is not ready to name his Opening Day starter yet–but honestly, who else could it be but Jon Lester? But I guess we will see…

Coming up: REAL baseball this week! The Sox/College doubleheader (Boston College/Northeastern University) happen tomorrow, and then the Grapefruit League, starts on Saturday! Whoo Hoo! Unfortunately, Jon Lackey gets the 2 inning/35 pitch start against the Rays on Saturday afternoon, followed by a bunch of people we never really
    heard off, but its BASEBALL!
