    February 5, 2013:
    Happy Truck Day!

Posted by Christine E. at 10:55 pm in Baseball,Old Friends,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

Yep, the “official” indicator that spring training is imminent–The Truck left Fenway Park around noon today, filled to the brim with all manner and variety of Red Sox stuff–both baseball and personal, and will arrive in Fort Meyers sometime on Friday…

I don’t know what it is, but this offseason has FLOWN by–it didn’t feel like the interminable mess that it has been in recent years. Perhaps it’s because we were all SO ready for the 2012 campaign to be over as it was pretty much pure and unadulterated CRAP from beginning to end–that we all just needed a time out, some space, and copious amounts of Jack Daniels and Maalox (had to get rid of all the extra Daisuke Daiquiris somehow…)

So now we turn the page and hope (oh, how we desperately hope) that Ben’s signings in the offseason, while not super splashy, are enough to get this team to at least be watchable and likeable again–and if they can contend, that’s all gravy, at least this year…

I just hope they can stay healthy–because, that has been the crux of the problem these last 2-3 years–everyone gets hurt at once, and Daniel Nava, while a great story, and sometimes fun to watch, should not be a semi regular outfielder, with nearly 300 at bats…

And how about this for efficient? I already have my tickets for June! They came last week! Less than a week after I ordered them–in the past I would get them later than that, so I have my 2 beautiful tickets in my hot little hands–Is it June yet?

The Sox now have a plan B for 1st base, signing veteran Lyle Overbay to a minor league deal, with in invite to Spring Training, with an eye to having his as a late inning defensive replacement, or to hit right handed hitting, or ever just to spell Mike Napoli. But there is the added bonus that he has been successful at Fenway, where he has hit .323 with 4 homers in 177 plate appearances…

And, as I mentioned on Facebook yesterday, Jed Lowrie was the centerpiece in a 5 player deal between the Astros and Oakland. Jed Lowrie, who hit .244 last year, and who the Sox traded for Mark Melancon (think the ‘Stros actually got the better deal on that one). A Centerpiece of a Deal…Wow…

And speaking of the Astros, how’s this for crazy: Their highest paid player? Righty Bud Norris, who will make a whopping $3 million this year. A-Fraud will make more than that sitting on the bench, even after a suspension…

Speaking of the Fraudulent One. The media is crazy about this, and it looks like he may be in a heap o’ trouble, possibly even facing the first lifetime ban for PED use. The BEST part about this for me? Vindication. I did a guest post on a blog last year, and made a prediction that A-Rod was toast, that he was done–stick a fork in me-OVA. And some little 14 year old Skankee fan got up in my grill about how stupid I was, and that I was just a dumb loser Red Sox fan who didn’t know anything. She even sent the link to her Skankee fan friends, telling them to “check out the stupid Red Sox fan who things A-Rod is done”

Now, I know my prognostication skills are crappy at best, but this little tyke should have kept her mouth shut–Cause A-Fraud is DONE–maybe not in the way I predicted, but the end result is the same–the odds of him playing meaningful baseball are pretty slim…Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha…

Finally, our friends at eTrueSports have the breaking news about all things A-Rod: Anticipating a dramatic income downturn due to a likely suspension for performance enhancing drug use, Alex Rodriguez announced his 20,000-square-foot Miami mansion is “For Rent” at $125,000 per month.

“By the way, I’m innocent of everything.” Read the whole story here:

Coming up: By this time next week, all the Pitchers and Catchers will have reported (they must do so by Sunday), and the first full squad workout will have happened…
