October 15, 2012: Post Season Predictions–
    The Pennant Series Edition…

Posted by Christine E. at 11:34 am in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

As I mentioned, my knack for prediction is pretty awful. I DID get the fact that the Skanks would advance past the Oreos, it just took them 5 games to do it.

I really REALLY thought the Nationals were going to beat the Cards–Hell, I think CARDINALS fans thought they were done. But coming back from a 6-0 deficit in Game 5 to win, 9-7, was a stunning upset, vaulting the Cards into the NLDS…

By the same token, I thought the Giants were done, after being outscored 14-2 in 2 games. You would think as a Red Sox fan who lived through the 2004 ALCS, I would have learned SOMETHING…baseball is a fickle mistress–and it ain’t over ’till its over…But The Giants took it to Game 5, winning the next 3 games to advance….

I was also right about the Tigers. But at least Oakland made a series of it, taking it the end before losing the 5th game…

So I was right 50% of the time in terms of who advanced, with the AL Teams, which stands to reason, as I know more about them–but I never thought all four series would go to 5 games…not at all…

And can we just agree that shutting down Stephen Strasberg was the single most stupid thing done in baseball this year? I truly believe that if that kid had pitched this postseason, the Cardinals would be playing golf now.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, The Sox hiring Bobby Valentine was 2nd stupidest thing in 2012…

So now The Tiger and the Skanks, and the Cards and the Giants battle it out in the AL and NL Championship Series.

The Tigers are leading the Skanks 2-0 in the ALCS, as they move to Detroit for the next 3–and Justin Verlander hasn’t even appeared in this series yet. Derek Jeter broke his ankle in game one, which takes him out for the rest of the year, and potentially complicates his 2013 season as well. With the exception of Ichiro and Mark Toxemia, no one is hitting worth a damn, and they just seem lost and out gunned. Their fans are freaking out, and booing just about EVERYONE. I know it’s not over until it’s over, and I am sure as hell not going to kick that sleeping dog, but…

    Prediction: Tigers in 6.

The Cardinals took game 1 of this series, and will play game 2 tonight. As I said about the Nats, the Cardinals are here to win, but the Giants overcame a 0-2 deficit to get here, so I think this will be a series than goes the distance… That being said…

    Prediction: Cardinals in 7.

So, if my predictions are right, (and that is always a BIG if) we’ll be seeing a Tigers, Cardinals World Series. Not the World Series of Boring, but not the most interesting matchup (That would have been the National and the Oreos…) But hey, at least it would be a Skankee-less one…

Coming up: Game 2 of the NLCS tonight in San Fran, starting at 8:00 and then the series moves to St. Louis. Game 3 of the ALCS is tomorrow in Detroit, starting at 8:00pm
