Red Sox 5, Tampa Bay 2:
    A Win for Aaron Cook

Posted by Christine E. at 6:14 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

Holy Buckets! The world must REALLY be ending! Aaron Cook actually got his first win since August 6th, improving (if that word even works here) his record to 4-10 for the 2012 campaign–UGH…

His pretty impressive line: 6 IP, throwing 75 pitches, 47 for strikes, giving up 1 run on 5 hits while walking and striking out 1, lowering his ERA to 4.93. Rich Hill and Junichi Tazawa followed up with a perfect inning each, and each struck out 2…Mark Melancon didn’t fare as well, giving up a run and 2 walks, and hitting a batter…

Oh, and in case there was any iota of a doubt: The Sox have been mathematically eliminated–but hell, as far as I am concerned, they were eliminated about June 15th…and Tampa Bay is not far behind. You can check out all the odds on the remaining contenders for the postseason here

And as a million young hearts in Red Sox Nation break, Jacoby, freshly engaged to his girl Chelsey, was channeling his MVP 2011 self last night, hitting a 2-run shot in the 6th inning to break up Alex Cobb’s no-hitter.

But the PawSox are still alive, clinching the International League title. They move onto the final game of their season tonight–The AAA Championship Game, where they will face the winner of the Pacific Coast League, the Reno Aces, part of the Diamondback organization. The game will be held in Durham, NC…

So there is a big brouhaha about Blue Jays shortstop, Yunel Escobar, who wore a homophobic slur in the eye black on his face in his native language, Spanish First of all, how incredibly stupid of him–did he really think no one would notice? And how about his teammates, his manager? No one noticed, and thought to say “Hey, Yunel, that’s not cool” I think he should be fined AND suspended–BIG TIME…

Finally, double trouble from our friends at eTrueSports. First up, from contributing editor John Nelson: “As speculation swirls in Boston over the name of Dustin Pedroia’s second child the Sox second baseman offered this brief comment: ‘It won’t be “Bobby” either way.'”

And: Responding to current events, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has called for the banning of Afghan Hounds from all U.S. Dog Show competitions. “They’re foreign,” explained Romney, “and they hate America.” Good stuff, as always!

Don’t forget, you have until Friday to enter Boston Red Thoughts super excellent 100th Fenway Anniversary Giveaway—check it out here

Coming up: Game 2 of the 4 final games at the Trop for 2012. Felix Doubront, one of the few Red Sox starters to actually have a winning record gets the nod, opposed by Jeremy Hellickson. 1st pitch: 7:10pm…

    13 more games…

I first went to Fenway last year, with my dad, to see the Red Sox play Cleveland. It was a fun time, and I really liked watching the game there.
