    Red Sox 4, Skanks 3:
    Doing the Spoiler Thing…

Posted by Christine E. at 4:26 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

While I certainly am not thrilled about the fact that the Sox have been unspeakably awful for the 2012 campaign, and have been reduced to playing spoiler for the contenting teams, even in a bad year, beating the Skanks feels good.

And the fact that it messes with their cake, all the better.

Despite giving up 7 (!!!) walks, in the 5th, Jon Lester broke the Red Sox record of most strikeouts by any lefty in the organization, surpassing Bruce Hurst with 1044, and limited the Skanks to 3 runs

The rest of his line: 5.1 IP, 5 hits, throwing 120 pitches, 55 for strikes

And Jacoby Ellsbury, celebrated his 29th birthday in grand style yesterday, with a walk-off RBI single in the 9th, scoring Yankee Killer Pedro Ciriaco–which is all strange and bizarre…

But you cannot dispute the stats: Against the Skanks, in 9 games he is hitting an otherworldly .486 with 11 runs, 4 stolen bases and a pair of game-winning hits…

But here is the quandary–I would love for the Sox to mess with the Oreo cake as well (since they did it to the Sox last year) but I think the indignity of losing the AL East to the cookies would be pretty unbearable to the Skanks–and that is oh so much better than revenge on the no longer hapless Oreos

And Holy Hell, Sox ownership needs to fire Bobby Valentine, PRONTO, because every time he talks about how he is the “best man for the job” and that he’ll be back next year, I get this overwhelming urge to stab myself in the eye…

Case in point, Daisuke has ONE good bullpen session, and despite the fact that he has SUCKED more often than not–and the fact that he hasn’t been able to get out of the 4th inning in his last THREE starts–and in his last start, he didn’t even get through TWO, they are going to give him ANOTHER start? Mr. “best man for the job” weighs in: “He looked real good. Talked to him today. I think we might have found something that feels good about him.” The only thing that would feel good about Daisuke is to get his ass out of the rotation–and off this team…

Another tribute to Johnny Pesky will be held on September 23rd, prior the afternoon Baltimore contest…you can’t have too many for the grandfather of Red Sox Nation, as far as I am concerned…\

Finally, Michael Silverman did a nice piece in the Herald today Comparing and contrasting which team was worse: 2012, or 2001. Definitely worth the read…

Coming up: Game 2 of the Red Sox spoiler tour, with freaking Aaron Cook and his 3-9 record taking the mound. He is opposed by David Phelps. 1st pitch 7:10. Let’s hope we can get some reverse lock magic happening…
