    August 22, 2012:
    Around the Horn…Sort of…

Posted by Christine E. at 8:33 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

So, I was telling someone tonight that since That Clay Person is on the mound, the Sox actually had a shot at winning–But since its the top of the 7th, and the Angels lead 7-2, and Clay gave up all 7 runs on 12 hits, and Jered freaking Weaver has done a good job of holding the Sox down, I am thinking a win probably won’t happen tonight EITHER…

Crap…How many games is that in a row?  I’m not sure I want to know…

Can SOMEONE please give me a satisfactory answer as to WHY OH WHY the Sox keep trotting Aaron Cook, with his 3-7 and 4.79 ERA, out to start every five days? Same for Josh Beckett, but he is another kettle of fish… Because I am not hearing a good reason for this–I am actually not hearing ANY reason for this…why are people not bitching more about this?

And yet, they got rid of Mark Prior, he of the 1-0, 3.96 ERA–HONESTLY, could he have been any worse? Really?

I know Felix Doubront needed some rest, as he is nearing maximum output, and Daisuke–well, Daisuke can stay at Pawtucket for the rest of the season as far as I am concerned, as he isn’t any better…One good thing, he is G.O.N.E  gone!  After this season…

So they fired pitching coach Doug McClure, which is something they should have done 3 months ago, and now were are supposed to be all happy that FINALLY Ben has DONE SOMETHING?

Too little, too fracking late, as far as I am concerned…

Someone did bring up an interesting point the other day–now that the Sox have just about completed this downward spiral–most, if not all of the pink-hatted bandwagoners should be gone–at least there is ANOTHER bright spot for this all but lost season…

Don’t forget, WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon at Fenway Park wraps up tonight at midnight. You can make a donation by calling: 877-738-1234, online donations can be made here, or you can make a $10 donation, which will appear on your phone bill, by texting KCANCER to 20222–It doesn’t get any easier than that folks. And, As of 7:00pm tonight, the telethon has raised $2,396,110!

What a lovely tribute to Johnny Pesky last night–got a bit dusty here in the home offices–I liked how the whole team wore #6 for the game–very impressive to see them all lined up at the base line–it was a classy tribute to a classy man– “Rest in peace, No. 6″. If you missed it, you can see it here…

Speaking of #6, my friend Paul from Boston sent this along, and I just had to share–Enjoy!

A couple of years ago before a Sox/Yankee game Derek Jeter approached Johnny Pesky to say what a terrific model that he was for the game of baseball and Johnny, classy as always, extended the same compliment to Jeter.

He then told Derek that he hoped that he would go 4 for 4 that day. And he did. But the thing was, the batter AFTER him GIDP’ed 4 TIMES THAT DAY!

Coming up: The final game against the Angels tomorrow, and the Sox will try to avoid being swept. Franklin Morales gets the start, opposed by C.J. Wilson (another one of those pitchers Ben should have made the effort to sign) 1st pitch: 7:10pm…
