    June 19, 2012:
    Some Random Thoughts…

Posted by Christine E. at 6:14 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

Some Randomness while we wait for the Sox to continue their torrid (or maybe not so torrid) path to over .500 baseball–we hope…The Sox stand at 33-33, with 96 games to go…

So, for the Sox to win a respectable 90 games for the 2012 campaign, they need to win 57 of their next 96–or a .594 win %. In light of the fact that they are bare knuckle gripping onto .500, confidence is not super high…Sure, they could go on a tear, and everyone else could spontaneously start to suck, thereby vaulting them into contention. Yeah, I know, anything is possible in baseball, but I think that stretches the realm of anything possible…

What a difference a year makes: Last year, the Boston Red Sox had 6 players attend the All-Star Festivities. Now, they will be lucky if they have one. Oh, there is no doubt, barring some crazy upset, that Big Papi will be selected, but he went on record last week saying he would not be going if he was selected. While I understand he probably wants the time off, but being selected is an HONOR, and not going is a slap in the face to the people who took the time to burn their 25 votes per e-mail address to get you there. And everyone knows that is Big Papi WASN’T selected, he be bitching up a storm, saying he was being “disrespected” Dustin Pedroia is still in 3rd place behind Ian Kinsler and Robinson Cano…

You have a little more than a week to cast your ballot. Deadline is next Thursday, June 28th at 11:59pm, EST. Go here

As I mentioned the other day on Facebook, I was OH SO happy to see Terry Francona, alive and well, and well-spoken as ever, even talking trash to Orel Hershiser, during the Red Sox-Cubs ESPN game on Sunday night. But, Holy Crap, did it make me miss him. Having nothing concrete to base it on, I just think the Sox would be doing better with Tito at the wheel…I know the trials and tribulations of the current Sox are not Bobby Valentine’s fault–I am just…underwhelmed…

But the best thing so far this week is that RYAN KALISH IS BACK! I have predicted that this young ‘un would come up to the Sox and have a Monster Season–and have for the last 3-4 years,, Is this the year? Well, so far so good: Since being called up to replace the ailing Ryan Sweeney (out until at least July 2nd with an “irritation in the sesamoid bone in his left foot”–otherwise known as a sore toe) Kalish drove in the go ahead run that started the big inning for the win on Sunday night…

And then there is the 2nd best thing this week: CODY ROSS IS BACK! Yep, I expect he will be activated today, and be ready to play in tonight’s contest against the Marlins…He has been on the DL since May 19th with a fractured foot…

And in CRAPPY news, Roger Clemens was acquitted of all charges yesterday, after a jury of his peers took less than 10 hours to make the decision that he did not lie to Congress and obstruct justice by denying he used PED’s…He was charged with 2 counts of perjury, 3 counts of making false statements and 1 count of obstructing Congress when he testified at a deposition and at a nationally televised hearing in February 2008. What a crock. I think the tipping point was Andy Pettitte’s “I may have misheard” nonsense. Uh what? How do you mishear “I did do ‘roids” “I did not do ‘roids”, and wouldn’t you ask for clarification if your friend said something to you that may have been misunderstood?

Coming up: The Sox are back in the Fens to host 9 games, starting with 3 against the Miami Marlins. In a repeat matchup of last week (Let’s hope it has the same outcome) That Clay Person gets the nod, opposed by Mark Buehrle. 1st pitch 7:10pm…
