    Red Sox 5, Minnesota 1:
    The Final Five-ish…

Posted by Christine E. at 6:11 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

And we can all breathe a sigh of relief that the Mayor’s Cup is back with the Sox, where it belongs…Whatever…

So, the 5 Starters for the Boston Red Sox played out pretty much as I expected, except for Felix Doubront. I thought they would go with Aceves as the #5 guy. And, as far as Daniel Bard goes, I still have my doubts (and they are many), but I think that he was pretty much a lock from day 1, unless he completely and utterly melted down…

And I am glad for Doubront. I think he has GREAT stuff, and if given the chance, can be a very effective starter for the team…Bobby Valentine weighs in: “Well, Felix, I think, had the best spring of anyone. Obviously if we just went on results, but he also progressed the way we hoped it would progress physically and mentally, to the point where we think he could be a very good Major League starting pitcher.”

And it’s a good thing that Aceves is the bullpen selection–he will probably be the Opening Day closer, as it appears that Andrew Bailey has suffered a thumb injury, and hasn’t even pitch in almost a week. As it is, he started Spring Training late, as he had a lat injury which sidelined him until March 12th. He is heading to Boston today to have this thumb looked at. I reallyREALLY hope his history of injures is not once again rearing its ugly head…If he was placed in the DL, the earliest he could be back is April 10th–if he is ready to go by then…

But I am not sure if Aceves CAN be the Opening Day closer—if the following week he needs to be the Opening Day STARTER…

Apparently, thumb injuries are freaking contagious–as now Josh Beckett has some sort of thumb “thing”, and is actually flying to Texas TODAY to have it looked it…and there are conflicting reports as to how bad it actually is. Bobby V is saying he is fine, and he is only going for the exam for peace of mind, but then Aceves is telling people that he has been told to be ready to make the start at Fenway next Friday

Well, if that happens, that sure is a most excellent consolation prize for being skipped over for the starting 5: To make the start for the Home Opener for the 100th Anniversary of Fenway Park…

    Holy Buckets…

The creep to the 25 man continued today, with Ryan Lavarnway being optioned to Pawtucket, where he will be the starting catcher. I think we will be seeing quite a bit of him during the 2012 campaign–especially if the offense struggles…Right now, 22 of the spots are taken, and it’s still up in the air as to whether Bobby V will take an extra pitcher (most likely) or not…

And it seems that Theo’s negotiating skills are still intact. Not only did the Sox get NOWHERE NEAR the value for him in the long drawn out deal that were the remuneration package–Chris Carpenter and mediocre Single A Player Aaron Kurcz, but now Chris Carpenter is on the shelf for at least 6-8 weeks, to rehab from his recent elbow surgery to remove bone spurs. Honestly, Ben, you had his freaking medical records, and you missed that? Or is working for Theo still too much of a habit? UGH…

Finally, everyone’s new favorite song, “At Fenway”, by Brian Evans, has been officially licensed by baseball, as well as being added to The National Baseball Hall of Fame library. How cool is that? If you don’t have your copy yet, you can get one here

The Sox played their last game today at Fenway Park South, and their last Spring Training Game, ending on a high note again the Nationals with a 4-2 win behind Aaron Cook…

Coming up: The Sox will once again face the Nationals, but this time not in Florida. They will travel to Washington to face the Nationals on their home turf, Nationals Park, in an exhibition game. That Clay Person gets the start against Edwin Jackson (Who SO should have signed with the Sox. 1st pitch 3:05pm…

I was checking out leasing an aerator for my yard, then I looked on ebay and found out I could near enough purchase one for the same price
