    Red Sox 6, Oreos 1:
    Vindication!

Posted by Christine E. at 5:29 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

Ahem, yeah right, the Sox beat the Cookies in a meaningless Spring Training Contest, which is supposed to take the sting out of the unpalatable September. Oh, OK, that means something…NOT…

I personally do not blame the Oreos–it was the Sox bad play that got them into the mess that actually caused that game to be a deal breaker…and they beat them, fair and square…

But Jon Lester, in his first actual spring training game, did what he always does to the Orioles–he beat the snot out of them. 14-0 against the ballclub in the regular season, he went 4 strong, giving up 1 run on 1 hit, while walking 4 and striking out 2. He threw 66 pitches in the span…

With this win, the Sox are currently 5-2-1, in 2nd place in the Grapefruit, 1 game behind Detroit and Toronto, who are tied for 1st…

Daisuke is still quietly putting together a strong and focused rehab, with a 40-pitch bullpen session with some long toss over the weekend. Pitching Coach Bob McClure weighs in: “As far as what I’m seeing from a health standpoint it’s hard to tell he was ever even hurt from the way he’s throwing the baseball right now. That doesn’t mean he’s ready by no means. I’m just saying it’s free and easy. It’s coming out of his hand really good. Looks sharp. Looks like he’s on schedule.”

It really seems like he has a fire in his belly–let’s hope it translates into some effectiveness when he DOES return, which is projected as sometime around the all-star break…

Daniel Bard and Alfred Aceves combined for 6 scoreless innings in the 5-0 Sox win against Tampa Bay on Friday night. How NICE would that be if it translates into wins against the Rays in the regular season? I still miss the days when they sucked, and the Sox would more than likely beat the stuffing out of them…

Looks like Andrew Miller will be pitching in a game soon, having thrown a bullpen and did some long toss over the weekend. He was a last minute scratch in his start last week because of some elbow stiffness…

As expected, the brouhaha for Opening Say starter has, well, started, with everyone pretty much divided among Jon Lester and Josh Beckett. My vote this year is Lester, as I think it’s time he step up and be the staff ace. Bobby Valentine says he has already made his choice, but wants to be the LAST manager to announce it…anything to make it about him, I guess…

It’s a shame that Oreo’s 2nd baseman Brian Roberts is still struggling with Post Concussive Syndrome, which he got sliding head first into 1st base last May? It’s to the point where he may have to call it a career. I always liked him. Whenever the cookies had something going, Roberts was always right in the middle of it. Remember that monster season that came out of nowhere in 2005 where he hit .314 with 18 homer? It’s too bad…

Coming up: Josh Beckett makes his 3rd start of the season, pitching against his old team, the Marlins. We will also see the new closer, Andrew Bailey for the 1st time…1st pitch: 1:35pm
