    February 13, 2012:
    Less than a week!

    Posted by Christine E. at 6:06 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox,Swag Comments (3)

Holy…Buckets! After waiting what seems like a LIFETIME–with the completely lackluster showing in improvements in this offseason not helping matters, Pitchers and Catchers is upon us…

The Truck left on Saturday, and should be pulling into Fort Myers sometime tomorrow, and several players have arrived and started their workouts  in anticipation of the 1st mandatory workout for P & C’s a week Tuesday…

And while I am excited for a new season to begin, there is a great trepidation as well…Because, unlike last year, when, on paper, the Sox looked like they were the team to beat, I am not sure they even crack the Top 5…

Now, I know there are a lot of people out there who don’t feel the Sox have gotten any worse than last year, and, in some ways have even gotten better (no more JD Drew and John Lackey is out for all of 2012, to name 2), and that may be true.

    But everyone else HAS…

The Skanks, who did even less than the Sox in the offseason (if that is possible), sure came up big in the pitching stakes, signing potential ace Michael Pineda and Hiroki Kuroda in January, and now, they have a tentative deal in place with the Bucs to get rid of malcontent AJ Burnett, and the 2 years remaining on his contract

Tampa Bay, who didn’t really need to get better, added slugger Carlos Pena back into the fold

LA Angels of Anaheim, New Mexico, United States, the World: Two words: Albert Pujols…

And how do the Sox respond? By signing yet ANOTHER crappy pitcher this weekend: Sean White, who posted a 5.68 ERA in the Rockies MINOR system last year…Spectacular…UGH

One good thing: The Sox and David Ortiz have come to terms! Whoo Hoo! The record is secure, and Big Papi will be happily (hopefully) playing with the Sox to the tune of $14.575, which is dead smack dab in the middle of what the Sox offered, and what he wanted…Mr Potato Head

I cannot even tell you how relieved I am about this…an unhappy Papi would not be a good thing, especially when this team has so much to prove in terms of attitude in 2012….Yount

Finally, in the last couple of weeks, I picked up some WAY cool Red Sox/Baseball swag:

As part of my participation in Old Time Family Baseball’s Charity Blogathon to benefit Doctors without Borders, I made a donation to the charity. All of the folks who donated were eligible for a drawing for some most excellent prizes–and I was lucky enough to win two: A Robin Blount Hall of Fame Action Figure, and a Red Sox Mr. Potato Head–Both will be in a place of honor in the Boston Red Thoughts home office.Brian and Jim-ed

Other most excellent acquisitions were my very own copy of “At Fenway” by Brian Evans, on a real-live CD–AND a GINOURMOUS photo of Brian and Jim-Ed–Signed by BOTH OF THEM…How cool is THAT?

Coming up: 6 Days to Pitchers and Catchers and 10 Days until the rest of the team reports. And then, wait for it: Their 1st game of the 2012 campaign against Northeastern University on Saturday, March 3rd at 2:35–in 19 days! Whoo Hoo!

I want a Jim Rice/Brian Evans signed pic! How did you get THAT!!! I love that song, my son loves it. He keeps singing it around the house and is frankly driving us all crazy with it.
