    November 29, 2011:
Moving at the Speed of Molasses in February…

Posted by Christine E. at 6:02 pm in Baseball,BBA,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

So I take a few days off and enjoy my time off from work and the Red Sox over the Thanksgiving Day holiday, returning today–and it’s like when you stop watching your favorite soap opera for, like, 2 YEARS…and you come back, and nothing really much has changed…

The Sox STILL do not have a Manager, although Torey Lovullo has been eliminated–not that this is surprising in the least; nothing had been said about him in well over a week. I think he would have been a good choice–but it seems that all of a sudden, experience is what the Sox want…

    We think…

So it’s down to Bobby Valentine and Gene Lamont, both of whom have major league experience. It’s believed that Ben wants Lamont, and Larry Lucchino wants Valentine–and a bit of a power struggle is going on right now…

Honestly, the fact that Lucchino is a power monger should come as NO surprise to Ben Cherington, as he and Jed Hoyer took over for Theo in 2005 when he quit the team over power struggles with Lucchino…

But my question is this–why would the ownership hire someone who will not follow Larry blindly? That seems to be what they want (at least Larry does), despite their protestations to the contrary…

I know Terry Francona was not hired until the 1st week in December in 2003, but this delay just reeks of indecision–and is holding the team in limbo, preventing them from making any other progress in an off-season where they really need to reassure the fan base that they have their sh*t together.

And I am not feeling that right now–AT ALL…

And what about this rumor that the Sox could have had John Farrell for Clay Buchholz? I would have made THAT deal in a minute…

So the Winter Meetings start next Monday in Dallas, TX–and the Sox are now saying THAT is their deadline–yeah, so was Thanksgiving–enough is enough already…

The Sox did do SOMETHING last week–but only because they had to: Offered David Ortiz arbitration (They also offered it to Dan Wheeler). As Big Papi is looking for a 3-year deal, it’s unclear as to whether or not he will accept. And apparently, some teams are interested in the DH, but as to what they are offering, and for how long, that remains to be seen…Both players have a little more than a week (December 7th) to accept or decline…

Finally, 85% Sports has come up with 2012 Free Agent Tracker Pages for all of the Major League Teams. As an added bonus, each page has a Top Prospects list, and the pages will be updated as things progress during the off-season.. You can check out the Red Sox one here

Coming up: In case you were wondering, we are currently at 82 days for Pitches and Catchers, and 128 days to Opening Day. Holy Buckets! That is a LIFETIME away!

happy valentine’s day! and, before you (and I) start grumbling about the irony of letting a groucho marx re-enactor run the sox, let’s just celebrate the fact that our red sox ACTUALLY MADE A DECISION! now our off season can begin.
