    November 22, 2011:
    It Figures….

Posted by Christine E. at 7:06 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

There was an argument going around at the end of the season, that if the Sox had managed to get to the Postseason, Jacoby Ellsbury would have been a lock for the AL MVP…

After things transpired yesterday, I am not so sure about that anymore…

We all remember back in 1999, Pedro Martinez just didn’t have a exceptional year–it was almost transcendent. But, despite having more first place votes than anyone that year, he lost to Ivan Rodriguez–because 2 writers, who, at the time believed that pitchers should not be considered MVP’s, and left him off their ballots completely…

But 12 years later, I guess people have changed their minds. And I can do all the arguments: Cy Young is for pitcher, Verlander only contributes every 4-5 days, blah blah blah. But, unfortunately, what we think doesn’t matter–and to bitch about it just makes me tired.

Jake should have won, simple as that–but I think we will see him in the running again–he is only 28, and I find it very hard to believe that this year was an aberration…

We all know that Pitchers and Catchers is in 89 Days, and that Truck Day for the 2012 Campaign falls on February 11th this year, in 81 days. And here are some more important dates, as they relate to the Boston Red Sox…Spring Training Tickets to the brand spanking new JetBlue Park at Fenway South go on sale at 10:00am on December 17th, prices will range from $5 to $47…

JetBlue Park at Fenway South? Really? Holy Buckets! Was that named by the same folks who decided that the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim was a good idea too?

The first actual baseball games, the doubleheader against Northeastern University and Boston College, happens on March 3, and the first Grapefruit contest, at home against Minnesota is on Sunday March 4th at 1:35pm. They will play 6 games during the Grapefruit League season, to vie for the “coveted” Mayors Cup…

Oh, and if you are interested, there is a City of Palms Park YARD SALE (yeah, you heard me) on December 17th where you can buy stuff such as ballpark furniture, collectables, and other such stuff–a Yard Sale? Really? Money that tight, Red Sox Ownership?

So, Bobby Valentine came to the Fens, interviewed, and said it would be “like Christmas” to get this job. Sandy Alomar, Jr. has been eliminated, and Gene Lamont has his 2nd interview this week, probably before Thanksgiving. Little to nothing is being said about Torey Lovullo, which is a shame, because I think he certainly deserves another look…

Coming up: 2 Days until Turkey Day–and unless the Sox skip over everyone and hire Valentine (which, unfortunately, is a complete possibility) The Boston Red Sox will not make their own deadline…Way to work this hot stove, guys…

Speaking of Hot Stove, I wonder if the Hot Stove Cool Music event will stay here, or move to Chicago. And what about the Foundation to be Named Later? And, if it does stay here–will Theo come back the play?” Interesting questions, all…
