    October 7, 2011:
    The Yankees Broke the Internet…

Posted by Christine E. at 5:31 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

OK, while not technically true, it is kinda cool that Twitter actually crashed last night, right after the Skanks lost Game 5 of the ALDS to the Tigers to send them home after the 1st round…I guess the “Intra-web” could only handle so many tweets of joy at one time…

And it’s also kinda cool how a large portion of the Skankee fans  were all abuzz yesterday afternoon about how the Skanks were “A lock” to win this game 5, and there was NO WAY they could lose, what with “Super Nova” on the mound, and the bats were coming back, and it was a home game, and blabbity blah blah blah…I guess Mystique and Aura had to work at the strip club last night, but their sisters, Crash and Burn, were definitely there to help the cause…

The problem with the Skanks was not their pitching, it was the fact that this vaunted offense could not get it together and overcome the very good pitching by Detroit–even by pitchers not named Verlander.. In last night’s game they stranded 11 men on base, including A-Fraud and Nick Shankapotomas’ HUGE strikeouts with the bases loaded in the 7th inning…And A-Fraud striking out the end the game? That says it all right there…I bet the online sportsbooks were going crazy after last night’s contest…

To date, I have watched about 30 minutes of the postseason. The end of the Rays/Rangers game 4 when the Rangers sent the Rays home to play golf, part of game 3 where Justin Verlander pitched, and the final strike out of A-Fraud last night to see the Tigers win…

And, as my friend Steve said last night, “Something that is almost as good as a Red Sox win, A Yankee loss.” And MY wish for the postseason has come true–there is now, no way, the Skanks can win the World Series…Whoo Hoo!

So now there Tigers and the Rangers will face each other in Arlington for Game 1 of the ALCS, which starts on Saturday night on Fox–Tito Francona will be the color guy, joined by the completely annoying, and often obnoxious Joe Buck–it will be interesting to see if he is anymore palatable without McCarver…

So the White Sox have chosen a new skipper. In a shocking move, they have hired former 3rd baseman Robin Ventura, who has exactly ZERO professional manager experience, to take over for Ozzie Guillen, who was banished to the Marlins. Its one of those hirings that will either be a stroke of sheer brilliance, or a magnificent catastrophe…But I think it could work. Ventura played for the White Sox for 10 season, so he knows the town, the team, the culture, etc. If they get him some good coaches, I think he’ll do fine…

Finally, as a follow up to the Terry Francona tribute song by The Guilty Party, there is now a music video. You can check it out here. Don’t forget, you can download the song for free, but there is the option to pay any amount of money. Any proceeds received will go to the Jimmy Fund in Tito’s name.

So tonight, 2 more Game 5′s on tap–The Brewers vs Arizona, and The Cardinals vs the Phillies–and both should prove to be pretty interesting. While I think it will be the Brewers and the Cards–its Game 5–ANYTHING can happen…
