    October 5, 2011:
    The Playoffs, Ho Hum…

Posted by Christine E. at 5:51 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox No Comments

Well, at least Tampa Bay crashed and burned early. And, as a matter of fact, I think that is about the same place the Sox would have left the dance–in the 1st round. It’s just ironic how they scratched and clawed and played their hearts out–always coming back from the brink. Only this time, there was no coming back.

So now the Texas Rangers will advance to the ALCS, to either play the Tigers, or the Skanks. Oh, how I hope it’s the Tigers…But personally, I think they had their chance last night with AJ Burnett on the mound. But they could do NOTHING, eventually losing 10-1, and tying the series 2-2. They will play again on Thursday at 8 for all the marbles–and I don’t think the Tigers will win, as much as it pains me to say it–unless they pitch Verlander on 2 days rest…

And…the Cubbies have asked to speak with Theo. Yeah, I am freaking shocked as well–OK, not even a little bit. And ya know what? I think he needs to go. It’s time…Let Assistant GM Ben Cherington take the reigns, and let Theo help the Cubbies–it’s a win-win…

And what I find most amusing is that folks are saying if Theo did leave the Sox to go to the Cubs, he would take Terry Francona with him. If I were Tito, would I really want to work AGAIN for the guy who did not give me all the tools to succeed? But then again, in the beginning, when he was the youngest GM in baseball and had something to prove, there was no one better than Theo…

Daisuke threw yesterday for the 1st time since he had his Tommy John Surgery in June, making 39 soft tosses from a close distance. He will continue his rehab at Fort Myers until November, and then probably continue his work in Japan. He isn’t expected to be ready to pitch until at least the All-Star break in 2012, which will be his final year of his contract with the Sox. He went 3-3 with a 5.30 ERA before his surgery–next to Lackey, that makes him look like a stud…

Remember how Laura Posada tweeted that infamous “My husband does too so have a bad back” tweet during that game where Jorge asked to be removed from the lineup because he was PO’ed he was batting 9th? And how she just made it worse, and it ended up making her look all disconnected and vacuous? Well, John Henry’s wife, Linda Pizzuti, has joined that club as well. Now, don’t get me wrong, I am sure she is a lovely woman, and from what I hear, she is no dummy. So why ON EARTH would you send out a tweet about how your husband was injured, but its all OK, because he got home in time to watch the Derby? Less than 48 hours after HIS BASEBALL TEAM had this epic collapse AND the Manager left the team over this? Hey, I am glad John Henry is OK, but really? All that mattered was a freaking SOCCER GAME? I know Twitter makes it really easy to send out info–but Holy Buckets, THINK before you Twit…er…Tweet…

Kevin Youkilis will finally have his hernia surgery today–yeah, the one he probably should have had 3 weeks ago. After a 4 week recovery, Youk can assume all of his normal offseason work, and should be 100% by Spring Training…

Heard something WAY cool today. Fox hired Tito to be an analyst for the ALCS–and the best part? He is REPLACING Tim McCarver as the color guy–for 2 games anyway–Whoo Hoo! Apparently McCarver has some medical thing that prevents him from being at the 2 games, but expects to be back for Game 3–Take all the time you need Tim–I think Tito will be VERY good at this–and if he brings his very cool snarky humor, I will definitely be tuning in…

Speaking of Tito, he made his very first public appearance since leaving the Sox on Friday, appearing on The Big Show on WEEI 93.7 FM, with Glenn Ordway and Michael Holley. He touched on such things as the issues going on with the team, what he felt ultimately led to the decision to leave, and more He also talks about the call he got from, get this, Manny Ramirez, after the announcement on Friday. What I wouldn’t give to have been a fly on the wall for THAT conversation…You can listen to the full audio here

Coming up: Both the Cardinals and the Diamondbacks face elimination today, as they are down 2-1 to the Phillies and Brewers, respectively. Despite the fact that my lack of prediction skills are legendary–hell, I predicted the Sox would win 108 games–my prediction is that the Phillies and the Brewers will meet in the NLCS, which starts on Sunday…
