    Red Sox, 3 Cleveland 7:
Not the best way it could have gone…

Posted by Christine E. at 2:40 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comment (1)

    Oh…CRAP…

Can’t say it’s Erik Bedard’s fault, he did his job, and gave the Sox exactly what they wanted from him–a decent outing that kept them in the game–and that is exactly what he did. Throwing 70 pitches, 49 for strikes, Bedard went 5 innings giving up 3 runs on 7 hits while walking none and striking out 5. And when he left the game, the Sox were tied.

And then Franklin Morales and Andrew Miller came in and between the 2 of them gave up 4 runs on 6 hits (including a homer) while walking 2, hitting a batter and striking out 4…in 3 innings of work…Not quite spitting the bit (but close) but when former Red Sox pitcher Justin Masterson did a great job (again) against the Sox, limiting them to 3 runs on 5 hits–and that was more than enough…

So, the Sox are totally NOT where I wanted (or thought) they would be going into this series with the Skanks–Just last week, they were up 3 games in the AL East–and today…Dead. Even. Tied…UGH…

But, it is what it is, so….

    To the Blackboard!

To recap: The Sox and the Skanks are both 68 and 42 on the season, tied for the AL East. The Sox have won their last 6 out of 10, the Skanks their last 8…One thing about a tie–makes the math easy…

If The Sox Sweep: The Sox will regain their 3 game lead in the division they has last week…Not far enough, but better than tied…

If the Sox Win 2: The Sox will have a 1 game lead in the AL East

If the Sox Win 1: The Skanks will have a 1 game lead in the AL East

If the Skanks Sweep: The Sox will have done a 180–and will be 3 games behind the Skanks in the AL East.

While I would like to think the Sox will sweep, and it’s certainly possible, given that they are 8-1 against the Skanks this year. John Lackey is pitching on Saturday night, so it’s less possible… My prediction is that they will win 2 out of 3.

Also, the Sox play 9 more games against the Skanks in 2011 Regular Season. All they have to do is win TWO more games and they will win the season series…

Look for Jed Lowrie to be activated shortly, possibly as soon as this weekend. He played 7 innings as shortstop in Pawtucket last night, and went 2 for 3 with a walk and 2 RBI’s…He is very close…

Coming up: Jon Lester takes the mound in Game 1 of this 3 game series against the Skanks–and chances are, I won’t get to see it, as I don’t always get “My 9″–and that is where it will probably be…He is opposed by Bartolo Colon (ahem–I am not saying A WORD.) 1st pitch 7:10pm..
