    Red Sox 6, Cleveland 9:
    Streak Snapping for Everyone!

Posted by Christine E. at 4:50 pm in Baseball,Random Thoughts,Red Sox Comments (3)

26 1/3 innings of scoreless work for Daniel Bard, all went POOF last night when he gave up 3 runs in an 1/3 of an inning worth of work last night. This included a “was it, or wasn’t it?” instant replay review of a 2-Run Asdrubal Cabrera homer, a 2nd hit, and a walk. To be fair, Randy Williams did allow the 3rd run to score, after he came in relief of Bard…

Matt Albers also contributed to the scoring, giving up a solo shot to Jason Kipnis in the 9th, ending HIS scoreless streak at 13 2/3…

Of course, a lot of this discussion would have been moot if Pretty Yukky Lackey didn’t show up. 5 runs on 8 hits (including TWO Homers) while walking none and striking out 2. He threw 106 pitches, 74 for strikes in his 6 2/3 inning worth of work. And to think, this guy is considered the 3rd Starter…UGH…So I guess we will see what is what when Erik Bedard makes his first start in a Red Sox uniform this Thursday. This was the day I was supposed to make the trip to the Holy Land, but due to some circumstances beyond my control, no Fenway for Christine E. this year. Maybe it’ll be a good thing, depending on how he pitches. Watch, he’ll thrown a no-hitter…

But, this is also a good thing–it means that Jon Lester will shift to Friday night to face the Skanks, and get an extra days rest…But then you have Yukky Lackey and Beckett to round out the series–which is only 1/2 good–the Josh Beckett part….

And its pretty much all over but the shouting–Clay Buchholz has stress fractures in his back, and he probably re-injured it when he had his bullpen session last week. Tito weighs in: “The update we have is Clay was seen by Dr. Watkins. The appointment has already been done. Now we need to let Dr. Watkins, (team physician) Tom Gill, (team trainer) Mike Reinold ‘ all the medical people ‘ Buc, (general manager) Theo (Epstein), have a chance to sit and meet and talk and kind of sift through things. Maybe we’ll have something later tonight, at the latest I would assume we’ll have something tomorrow.” But the Sox put him on the 60-day DL yesterday, so I think it’s safe to say that he is probably done for the year, as stress fractures need rest and time, not surgery, to heal…

I am a huge fan of NESN, and Rem Dawg and DO are some of the best guys out there, but they have this new segment called “NESN Nation”, where people do YouTube type videos expounding on just about anything they like. For instance, this guy talked about his theory that Ozzie Guillen was using mind control on the Sox on Friday night. And then this one where they talk about how Josh Beckett makes it easy to move on from Hanley Ramirez…And the kicker is they are running them in their news feeds like they are legitimate news. REALLY??? Mind Control? And the whole Josh Beckett/Hanley Ramirez thing is so 4 years ago. I don’t get it…

From the That was Fast Department: One minute he is the forgotten man, the next he is at Pawtucket for a rehab assignment. Yep, Jed Lowrie has gotten well to start the road back… He played 3 innings at short, and went 0-2…Incredibly, he could be back with the Sox as soon as this weekend, which is going to make things mighty interesting on the 25 man…

Coming up: Game 2 of the 4 games against Cleveland. Josh Beckett and his sparkling 2.17 ERA go for his 10th win of the season, opposed by David Huff (who has a .071 ERA–yes, like 71 cents…UGH). 1st pitch 7:10pm
