    Red Sox 6, Oakland 3:
Sweeps work much better this way….

Despite my concerns to the contrary, John Lackey had a very good outing yesterday, the first game back from his trip to the DL: pitching 5 28/3 inning, Lackey threw 93 pitches, 54 for strikes, giving up 3 runs on 3 hits (including a homer) while walking and striking out 2. The hitting THREE batters was troubling, including Conor Jackson twice–as was the fact that Matt Albers allowed the only inherited he got from Lackey to score…

And Albers, who always seems to blow it somehow when he comes out to pitch, should have a much worse ERA than 3.68–probably doesn’t because he allows other people’s runs to score….But at least he did not add any of his own, and completed his work, as there was precious little of a bullpen after they pitches almost a complete game of their own in the 14-inning marathon win on Saturday….

So Daisuke is “shocked” that he needed surgery huh? And he just decided a couple of days ago (Friday) that he was actually GOING to have surgery? Really? I especially liked the fact that apparently, his Japanese translator and the Japanese media liaison had different interpretations of what Daisuke was actually saying–Interesting. Daisuke is expected to have his Tommy John surgery sometime this week or next…

And, apparently, there is a 2 for 1 special on the procedure–So Rich Hill, who left a game, clutching his arm last week, is a 2nd opinion away from having the surgery in the near future. Unlike Daisuke, Dr. Gill actually think surgery is needed… Yeah, the Rich Hall who was pretty much the Sox best left-handed option out of the bullpen…

Old friend Manny Delcarmen opted out of his minor league contract with Seattle and signed another minor league deal with the Rangers, hoping to make his way back to the bigs…

Finally, If your looking for info on the city of Boston, head over to Boston Smarts, which provides info on everything from great restaurants, to night life, to hotel that an fit just about any price range. For in on all-things Boston, check them out!

Coming up: Another off day, then the Sox head to New York to hopefully repeat what they did when they were in new in May–sweep the crap out of them…Jon Lester, who got extra rest this time around, gets the start, opposed by Freddie Garcia. 1st pitch 7:05pm….
